Q: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

This is interesting comment. Someone coming the other way. .  "I'm happy to report that the iCloud solution is 'outstanding' "

Yep, and in truth it's not bad but if what's most important is a solution that is not cloud based iCloud is crap.

Now that opinion of icloud undoes all the arguments posted by concerned people about security or inability to access internet when out and about.

Icloud is efficient, free, fast, and there are tools to sync icloud with all platforms including those by Eltima.

Crap it is not. That is a biased opinion not supported by any evidence.

Again, if for whatever reason somebody wants an option that is not, I repeat not cloud based. How good is iCloud for that person?

Simple - It doesn't meet their needs. It's crap for them.

If it's not a consideration then things are different.

And for that matter Csound1 and petermac87

What is it you do not get about this thread?

"How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option."

Why do you three endlessly go on expounding how good iCloud is?

This thread is for people who want to find a solution of localsync and not any frigging cloud - it is supposed to be a thread for people to help each other find THAT solution.

It is not a thread for endless purile irrelevant "I know better than you" ********.

Is it really so hard for you to accept that there are people who cannot for very sound business reasons and / or personal preference are do NOT want anything to do with any cloud?

If you want to start your own thread about how you love iCloud go and do that and stay away from this thread, please.

You can say what you like within resion but on a thread "......iCloud is not an option"  Then there is very little point saying any thing on this thread, witch suggests it is an option.

I wasnt talking to either of you, I was happily discussing one of the options put forward, sycnmate 5 beta, pointing out opinion on their forum, and gumsie came in with the unsupported opinion that icloud was "crap". This was an argument never put forward before by any of the posters genuinely unable to use icloud.

The context of the thread has never been about how good or bad icloud was, only when it is not accessible, or some secret squirrel reason why poetry cannot be put out to allegedly insecure places etc. Making judgement on the quality of icloud was introduced a few posts ago and I countered it, except i justified the opinion. Now maybe you should all go over to that not very busy forum and discuss the ultimate solution there.

I did say earlier that it's actually not that bad but that the 'crap' remark was assuming that a non cloud based solution was the primary reason for calendar and contact sync.

As far as Back to my Mac and Find my Mac are concerned, I love it.

I have downloaded a copy of SyncMate 5 beta and tested it on my Mavericks computer and iOS 7 iPad and iPad.

It seems to work just fine for Calendars and Contacts (my two main concerns.)

    I am happy.

    G'night all.

So to sync my phone with my computer, just like I always have, I now need to put all my information in "the cloud"?  This is so frustrating it makes me want to find another phone supplier and another computer maker; of course the other options will likely prove just as frustrating.  I wonder why Apple wants all my information in the cloud instead of on my devices?  And I wonder why I don't have a choice?  My phone now shows me songs that I can't play and haven't put on my phone but I can purchase them from the cloud?  Thank you for that.  I used to think well of Apple; now I see they're trying to take advantage of me in sneaky and manipulative ways and it drives me crazy because in a free market I'm supposed to have options but in this market my options don't feel like actual alternatives, just more of the same and probably less pleasant to use.

Syncmate tells me it won't work with OSX 10.9 because of something Apple did and that they're working on a solution.  Maybe I don't need an iPhone after all.  Pre-paid is sounding better and better and maybe the voice call quality will be decent for a change.

SyncMate are updating their version to work with Mavericks. Companies have had ample time to update their software to work with new OSXs. I don't know how pre-paid will fix your syncing problems. You say you don't have options. Read the options give in this thread alone. You can change to Windows. iTunes still syncs calendars and contacts on Windows....for now.

Everyone has choices. Nobody is against you making yours. But there is nothing we other users can do to help your issues other than giving you Apple' proper feedback link and wishing you luck that enough people complain for them to reinstate the option.

    Welcome to the forums.

If you are willing to risk your data to Beta software here is where Eltima are recruiting testers for the next version…

    http://www.sync-mac.com/subscribe_syncmate5.html

There are several possible solutions that have been posted here many, many times, skim back a few pages to see your options.

Also check the 'user tips' for info on Biakal (one option) & the possibility of reverting if you upgraded.
