Q: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

I hate not having my data local and localey sync'able and so I use SyncMate or OSX server (my prefence if for this) and I don't think it was a good move for Apple to have removed the USB sync option.

BUT what do you think the "i" in iMac, iPhone, iPod and iPad means? I read somewhere, 'internet' and so it's not supprizing that Apple want to have all data in the iCloud.

If this is not the case I am shoure some one will put me right.  LOL

If my 2013 ipod classic had to resort to internet only it would have to retire.

The change dot org petition now has a whole 800 more signatures than when this thread started. Recently more than one a day. Apple must be shaking in their boots ... not.

Csound, sorry, I realized I didn't answer your question.

The irony of course being that a piece of Microsoft software now supports a feature for my iPhone that Apple's own OS X does not(!).

OSX fully supports Contact/Calendar 'sync' using any of dozens of services, almost all of which require Internet access, but there are several that don't.

How do you use Microsoft Exchange, is it a local connection? or are you connected to the Exchange server over a network.

What exactly is your objection to using online services?

Fortunately for you, it doesn't use the internet at all, let alone rely on it.

You have found alternative methods to use it seems, what is the issue now?

Why do you think evey thing I post has to be an "issue".  I was making a comment on some of the posts here that suggest that Apple did not warn us that the local sync services would not be included in OSX Mavericks.  I was trying to say then the "i" in the name of Apple products might be the warning that this would happen.

My point exactly in response to Steve's theory  - the "i" can't mean "internet" in that case.

Why do I think every post must be over an issue?

    Because

This is a tech support forum, not a chat room.

But, as you have no technical issues to deal with I have no advice for you.

I also have no interest in speculating what the i stands for, one guess is as bad as another.

It was in error but I do not know how to remove a post.

Do you know how to remove posts that are made in error?

You can't, unless you have not posted it yet.

    We'll live with it now.
