Q: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Not only can I not pull posts, you might have noticed my cross link to a similar thread was pulled along with yours and several others.

Re lateness, I can only reiterate that if you felt the links brought "hope to the millions",  why jump into the battlefield now the war seems to be over and bayonet the wounded?

By the way when posts like mine are pulled as collateral damage because we replied to yours, we don't get the courtesy of an email to explain, so don't feel badly done to. This is a very sensitive subject for our hosts.

Perhaps this will be pulled as well and perhaps folks will read it before the handlers do their dastardly work...

I missed reading it which is a shame. fienmasters posts are usually pretty funny due to their lack of substance, fact and general intelligence. People who ignore terms of use often turn up in these forums for failing to read the most basic of information on software they install and then blame everyone except themselves. It has been going on here for many years. Sometimes a read of terms can inform you of impending incompatibility but I think some would still moan and blame everyone else

if the program was called 'Do Not Install On An Apple Mac,.

Terms of use will specify functional incompatibilities? That's a new one.

petermac did not write "Terms of use".

Sometimes an update will list compatibliltiy or incompatiblilty.

Terms of what? Specs are not Terms, product descriptions are not Terms. Please learn to write accurately.

Two words with out any point of reference are meaningless.  I have been berated my you (petermac87) in the past for not being clear and now you are not being clear.  "Terms" of what?

Thanks for this. I was able to download SyncMate 5 beta 5.0.117 however syncing remains much as before. Has anyone managed to sync more than 500 contacts at a time? I can’t.

Re trolling: disappointing to see that this is still going on. A few individuals are clearly determined to rubbish the discussions and make it more difficult for readers to come here and find information.

Ironically the Terms of Use — to which the offenders constantly refer — make it clear that trolling itself is forbidden (sections 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and 4.1). I’ve made a complaint to Online Support Feedback at <https://ssl.apple.com/support/feedback/>. So far this has had no effect and the snide one-liner posters have continued with their games. (Given the ever-watchful monitors who’ve already removed 40+ messages from this discussion, this is surprising.) I hope other people will complain so we can get back to using this forum constructively.
