Q: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Then tell Apple. Whining about it here accomplishes nothing. Not to mention the fact that the issue of Notes syncing is completely off topic.

You think I have not told Apple? Yes I use the feedback system.  Local sync without iCloud is NOT off topic.  Csound1:  "I totally disagree, must send some feedback to Apple on that."

So I can replay: What do you totally disagree with?  (local sync of Notes) or (that I don't care when local sync of notes was removed)?   If you "totally disagree" with the local sync of Notes, may I ask why?

    Isn't it obvious?

I think that the current system is far superior and will actively argue for it not to be changed.

    Do you understand now?

I can not see how having the ablity to local sync Notes would reduse the current systems superiority.  I do not see that return of local sync of Notes would change the current system.

Yes the old system synced the Notes with the mail program and the new system has a deacated Notes program but it I can not get the notes I make on my iPhone to automaticaly sync with the notes I make on my mac so I am unshour as to how this can be seen as superior.

Well, I am as entitled to an opinion as you are.

    So we'll agree to disagree.

Wrong. One can not remove what never existed.

I can not see my last post had "opinion"  I do not see how the statment  "That adding or returing Local sync of Notes as a option without removeing anything that the current OS has would not deminish the OS in any way."   I am makeing this statment from a technal view.

Also if the OS gives you what you want and works in the way that you like as well as giving others what thay wont and work in the way they like and the two ways of working can site side by side or can be switch as a option.  How would that be disagreeable to you?

Congratulations to all people here who supported the change back, and suffered  the malicious messages from some three or four users who don't care about other users problems.  Contrary to which this malicious people think, collective actions can change mistakes the company could make and this way can help Apple to improve and stay ahead.  The thought of these other users is the one that lead Apple in the direction followed after firing Steve Job in the past.  That doesn't help Apple at all.

Yessss we did it!!! contrary to the few pessimists, who instead of helping, tried to discourage us and preached "iCloud" since October. I'm so happy local syncing is back. Good by, I am going to unsubscribe now. And for the iCloud lovers, keep flying high in your cloud!

Don't get too giddy patting yourselves on the back over this.

I have long suspected local USB syncing was never intended to disappear completely and forever. The most likely scenario is that the replacement for SyncServices simply wasn't ready for the initial releases of Mavericks, and was scheduled to re-appear regardless of all the tantrums and whinging going on here...

Wiredancer and  zero_duke, (don't remember your contribution before) You are disingenuous in your accusations that those who simply challenged the false claims whenever they arose (that Apple were forcing people into the cloud) were not caring or helping.  The people, who I think you accuse, consistently pointed out the alternatives. But the right to challenge the premise of the thread and point out the advantages of cloud systems and question the security concerns was also valid.

Nobody won any battles,  but I am very pleased you got back your wired solution. Yes I will remain in the cloud and continue to enjoy it.

Somehow, I don't see this thread going quiet too soon.

    Btw the name was Jobs.

Sorry peter_watt that my comments don´t like you.  But your comments (with some of them I agree) don´t invalid mine.  And some people weren't just consistently pointing out the alternatives.

I agree that nobody won any battles, just some people got what they had before restored.  That's good.

This function makes a better product because it's useful to more users.  You (and me) use the cloud (not with Contacts for me).  But some others didn't want (or not allowed) to and I think we have to consider that. There are other people out there, not just you and me.  It is very simple.

    btw, I know it's Jobs...

Can you locally sync over USB *and wifi*? I'm not upgrading from Mountain Lion until both are back.
