Q: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

    Hello !

    Did anybody already try bi-derictional USB-sync of  the agenda and the adresses (I use a "iphone-selection") with 9.3.? That means Office-Mac <-> iphone <-> Home-mac ?

If this would work, everything would be really fine for me…

    Thanx for information

You can't imagine how much I appreciate your message, Csound1.  Thank you very much.

Your message is an objective evidence that my comments about some people weren't just consistently pointing out the alternatives are not wrong.

    Thank you sincerely.

    Kind regards...

I think in this case if you can't/don't want to use icloud you would be better off using somthing like SyncMate 5 insted of iTunes.

from my pased experinces the iTunes sync is meant more for syncing Phones to One computer/user.

Thank you to Apple for restoring the ability to sync Contacts and Calender via USB connection. It's heartening to know that a giant corporation can still listen to its users.

Now if we can just have Cmd+I restored to Mail...

I must say, I am surprised.  I really thought that they were getting too above us to allow us to determine what is important and right for us.  I stand corrected. Thank you Applelings.    I have a new-found appreciation for all of my Mac-integrated areas of life.

...Well. Perhaps I spoke too soon. Just installed the 10.9.03 update and itunes just locks up when I plug in my iphone using a USB cable...event after a 2nd reboot and several tries.  Really?  How does THAT happen ?

That's not happening for me - nor have I read or heard of it happening to anyone else. Must be a glitch related to your setup.

Did you also update to iTunes 11.2?

Ok.  Werid issue when connecting to my iphone 5/5s 7.0.6

    10.8.5 / itunes 11.2 - see the groups

    10.9.3 / itunes 11.2 - don't see the groups

    troubleshooting: that didn't work

    - created new user account

    - repaired permissions

    - install the 10.9.3 combo update

    - rebooted

    anyone having the same issue?

Guess apple police doesn't allow to talk about the modified operating systems not being suppoted with this new version of 10.9.3 and 7.0.6 modified os with local sync. Since that specific word resulted in my deleted post.

I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with you running an old iPhone OS. There seem to be reports of it being but and miss. Most report that it's a combo of 10.9.3 and iTunes 11.2 and having Find My Mac enabled.

Some here will undoubtedly call it a feature.

I have the latest releases but haven't yet installed. I'm not happy with the new permissions discrepancies yet. (Users folder has read and write permissions for everybody it seems). I may wait for guidance from Apple or some more knowledgeable folk.
