Q: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

It's pretty comical how some of the old timers on here dismissed this topic from the very beginning, but some of us took it upon ourselves to push Apple from various points to make this happen for everyone that wanted it back.  Complain enough and to the right places and amazing things happen.

Thanks Apple for coming to your senses and putting this back.  You know you were wrong in the first place to remove it.  Now add to it for Notes, Bookmarks, etc.  It seems only logical.  Thanks again... to Apple, not the people on here who shot down this request from inception.

Have you still not realised that this is not Apple,

    How hard can it be?

I know I said I would not replay but who owns the domain "discussion.apple.com"?  O yes it's Apple.  If Apple is not here or looking here then why are they Apple so picky about what go's on here? O and the Terms and Conditions you sign when you join this forum are from Apple. Also the branding/logos look and feel of this site is Apple.  If Apple did not read some if not all of the posts I would be suppressed.

To end with if Apple are not looking why be so vocal about "....this is not Apple." Why douse it matter to you and others so much.  If Apple where not watching it would not matter at all.

P.S. I for one do you the feedback sites and I am shore others do to.

You promised that we had heard the last of your ridiculous posts. Do some research before blabbering non truths.

    Thanks in advance

    Sorry for my English.
I found a bug in 10.9.3, if I synchronize contacts and calendars via USB, reminders are not synchronized.
But if I enable syncing for iCloud Reminders, me again sicronizar for iCloud calendars, although this is not enabled.
    Anyone testing this?

Just check that the Mac hasn't by default turned on iCloud contacts sync for you.

I've been running 10.9 for a few days now and opened contacts to find both iCloud and On My Mac are both there.

So you must have signed into iCloud then.

    No.

I can't believe you're still here whining and making assumptions and comments about something that doesn't bother you.

Please note the below text carefully.

    I was one of the hold outs that stayed on ML and didn't use iCloud for anything but email.  The latest upgrade is when I came across. I'll summarise in case I've made it ambiguous;

I did not previously upgrade to 10.9 as I don't like any of the iCloud features except mail, (and as of today Reminders). I therefore don't use them. I don't have it switched on for any of my Apple devices.

Your Mac works perfectly aways has done and you love iCloud. Bully for you. If it pleases you there is no need to comment further. You're probably just going to turn it into another one of your ridiculous crusades where you start quoting the TOU over and over.

Please prove me wrong on this.

iCloud requires a username and a password, it does not happen by magic.

So if you did not do it who did?

The username and password are already in the system. Go to the Internet Accounts pane of System Preferences  and you'll see.

I'm signed in only to Mail, Back to my Mac Reminders. The others are and have always been manually deselected immediately. As others have mentioned ion this thread and others on the board. Some upgrades have seen these selections change without input from the user.

In addition when I checked that panel Notes, Documents and Data, Photos had also been re-enabled.

Is this so hard to grasp?

As I can't replicate that behavior on any of my Macs I would have to say that yes, it is. I can't figure out what you did wrong without more info, and your attitude is stopping you from helping with that.

    Good luck.
