Nov 1, 2013 3:34 AM in response to WHby snozdop,Why dont you simply ask Apple to bring the simple sync feature back to OSX ?
Yeah, because a simple request to Apple is all it takes to make them change their mind on removal of a feature that was initiated 3 years ago...
You can aditionally use Windows to sync, cause on WIN this feature is still alive.
If everybody here was using Windows, this thread would not exist. Everybody here is a (potential) OS X Mavericks user.
You are like Android people, who needs to show, how they can manage the depth of their OS.
And you need to show, how you can manage to understand a forum thread before replying with totally irrelevant comments.

Nov 1, 2013 3:34 AM in response to snozdopby Babaqum,This is a totally stupid design decision by Apple. Deliberately breaking users workflow and forcing people to give all their private data to the spy-iCloud, I don't know what to say.
So NSA request coming in nicely, Tim?
I'm not going to use iCloud or any other cloud service. Apple, with this move my workflow has been broken and I will move on to other mobile platforms.
Also I am considering moving away from OS X. It does not feel good to be customer of a company which will eventually (without notice) break my essential workflows.
Apple - shame on you!

For the billionth time, Apple are not here. You are wasting your time making comments towards Apple on this forum.
If you want Apple to hear you, send them a message here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Nov 1, 2013 4:04 AM in response to Gerrit7by WH,Snopdoz, your comment is really nonsense.
I gave the WIN comment, to show you, that you are in the wrong thread and to give additional information,
that today only OSX Mavericks users are out of this service.
People of you do, that nothing changes in the world.
If you want things changing, you must select and comment.
And by the way, Apple is looking this forum, because they delete messages, they dont want.
But, our discussion here is out of topic.
For that reason, I ask to get back to topic, and the topic is OSX, not server.

BTW Apple's move ( and they are listening ) is not about specfically about grabbing your data and doing strange things with it. There are plenty of agencies that do that already. No Apple's move is about market share.
Moving swiftly back to the Technical before I get a shot across the bow from KiltedTim. How is Apple able to launch OS X Maverick in the US/UK form in Germany, givine the strict data laws that pertain in that country? Is there a different version (with local sync) on offer in Germany?

Nov 1, 2013 5:05 AM in response to Arnorfby RobertCailliau,Arnorf and others:
Privacy laws are strict all accross the EU, not just Germany (and the UK is an EU member too, though it may have weird exceptions).
The first post on this whole thread was from someone whom I believe to live in the Netherlands, with the same privacy worry.
However, laws incorporate what people think. It's my general approach to life and privacy that makes me not like the cloud. Not because there is a law here. That same approach also makes me vote for such laws, but they are the result, not the cause.

Nov 1, 2013 5:16 AM in response to WHby snozdop, that today only OSX Mavericks users are out of this service.
And what operating system do you think all the posters in this thread are using, or intending to use soon? Did you look at the title of the thread? It is specifically about OS X Mavericks.
Telling people they can use Windows, does not help people who use OS X Mavericks, does it?
Apple is looking this forum, because they delete messages, they dont want.
No, the forum moderators delete messages after they have been reported for violating the terms of use. They are employed to do that job - they have nothing to do with the design and features of Apple products and do not pass on comments posted here. That is what Apple's Feedback pages are for.
I ask to get back to topic, and the topic is OSX, not server.
The topic is "How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks?". Using OS X Mavericks Server on a local network is a potential solution for some people. Using Windows is not a solution for anyone.

Nov 1, 2013 5:18 AM in response to snozdopby Babaqum, snozdop feedback was sent. Apple headquarters germany called. blog entry written. dev bug report submitted. now let me rant on this forum! nothing more I can do. if every user here would do the same it would be great.

Nov 1, 2013 5:22 AM in response to Babaqumby snozdop, now let me rant on this forum!
You should read Section 2. 3. of https://discussions.apple.com/static/apple/tutorial/tou.html before doing that.

Nov 1, 2013 5:43 AM in response to Babaqumby fred242,I agree with the general sentiment and it is absolutely essential, if no simple technical solution is forthcoming, that we bombard Apple with compliants about this. I have commented on various other discussion sites, emailed Tim Cook, no doubt his minions will read it, and of course left feedback as suggested on the Apple feedback page. One important point is that if this issue isn't resolved, it makes it hard to justify buying new Macs which almost certainly won't run on 10.8.5. We really need a petition on this- in all the decades I have used Macs I have seen many Apple ****-ups, but never anything as mindlessly distructive of my workflow as this silent 'feature' in Mavericks.

Nov 1, 2013 5:47 AM in response to Gerrit7by Ginger Labella,I for one reverted back to Mountain Lion specifically due to this issue. If anyone else wants to, here's how (if you've been using Time Machine):
-
Nov 1, 2013 5:52 AM in response to pulot pulot1by Parikhal,It sounds like the best solution to take a step 'backwards', go into Time Machine and install the previous version of OSX. And, to sign a petition.
Question. If I do this, do I lose all the calendar and contacts information I've put in calendar and contacts?
For an average person like me, it sounds difficult and potentially dangerous if I lose data.
Yesterday Apple deleted a post because it was "non-constructive" - simply because I suggested they make a management change at Apple as part of a "constructive" post which suggested that the bigger problem they haven't dealt with is that not everyone has internet connections all the time and might want to sync when on trains, planes, etc. (yes, you can pay $15 to GoGo to sync your computer, I guess!).
Here's my "constructive"suggestion ... fix the sync problem in Mavericks.. Don't make me go through Time Machine to an earlier OS. Sign a petition. And, in future, have the senior management pay closer attention to the little 'real world' details (such as maps, etc.) before they roll out 'improvements'.
If Apple deletes this as non-constructive then my disappointment will be complete.

Nov 1, 2013 6:10 AM in response to Parikhalby Ginger Labella,<Question. If I do this, do I lose all the calendar and contacts information I've put in calendar and contacts?>
Before I reverted back to Mountain Lion, I exported a backup of my Calendar file, so that I could import it afterwards. In Calendar pull down File > Export > Calendar Archive... then just note where you save the file (must be to an external drive so that you can grab the file after you wipe your hard drive in the Time Machine process).
To be safe, before I reverted, I did a Time Machine backup of my current system (Mavericks version) so that I would have anything and everything just in case. That took a while, but I figured it was good insurance. Then I made myself a list of what I intended to grab from where, after the Time Machine reverting of the system. So, after reverting (which took about 2 hours for Time Machine, so plan accordingly) I then grabbed my newer project folders from the Mavericks Time Machine backup, my Calendar file from the manual backup I had saved, etc.) Just take your time, know that you have redundant information, and then set things back to the way you want them.
Of course, if you were not using Time Machine prior to upgrading to Mavericks, you will not be able to revert in this way.
Good luck!

Nov 1, 2013 7:22 AM in response to handsOFFmydataby eisenrotz, sorry for that, I found out later that the process left out calender, contacts and so on . . .
just realized at the beginning that iCloud was marked as a standard. so sorry for making people read my hardly reasoned contribution.
finally I ended up too, making contact with Apple directly to express my opinion to this NO GO
and add a voice that this is NOT an option . . .
my minor use of calender, notes and little come up of new contacts helps me waiting
and doing things manually . . . but I won't do so for ever and it is just impracticeable and unbelievable.
there is no need for a workaround but the need to restore the functionality.
sorry for the many of you and all the users depending on that on a large scale.
best regards
hope my cellphone company does not decide to no longer support iPhones while not being connected to electrical power and still selling them to me . . .

I hope Apple fixes this soon on Mavericks instead of forcing us into their cloud.
