appears to fix the Wifi problems on the newest Macbook Air 2013 which I have, was really looking forward to the
update for this alone.. oh well, Apple please bring the info tab back the way it was, and all will be well. I want to synch my devices locally !

Nov 3, 2013 2:53 PM in response to null null416by drowningindata,And now this on zdnet:
From Russian security researcher Vladimir Katalov
Katalov told ZDNet he was shocked to discover that in addition to all of these (see article) security chain issues, Apple's iCloud data is stored on Microsoft and Amazon servers.
Katalov's presentation pointed out that because Apple provides full request information to its third-party storage providers (Amazon and Microsoft), Apple could provide this data to law enforcement.
Microsoft and Amazons servers have already been hacked by the NSA.

Nov 3, 2013 3:28 PM in response to drowningindataby fred242,A numbe of people have posted links on how to set up caldav using osx server. I found this link that gives information on all the terminal settings which are not available from the graphic front end:
http://krypted.com/tag/setup-caldav-client-for-ical-server/
This link came from Macbidouille.com, a site unfortunately just in French at the moment because they lack the resources to maintain their English translation at Hardmac.com. They are the only Mac related news site that I know (please correct me if you know others) who are highlighting the security issues caused by this change in sync procedure. Being a non US site of Mac enthusiasts, they are taking the same position as 99% of the US and non US posters on this forum.

Nov 3, 2013 6:26 PM in response to drowningindataby brollyjohn,That's BIG news. This Icloud fiasco is getting worse by the day!
Truly scary to imagine what could be done with all that hacked Amazon, Microsoft and iCloud data together on the same servers.
Can't downgrade easily sadly so I'm going to have to deal with Mavericks on a very short firewall leash for the short term.
Giving apple until their next upgrade package to fix this mess and bring back that little USB cable that worked fine up to now.
If not, those Samsung and Sony tablets and phones are beginning to look like a real option with SL and SyncMate.

Nov 4, 2013 12:56 PM in response to brollyjohnby Eliasor,In addition to posting on apple.com/feedback (where I always wonder if it is just going into a black hole), people concerned about this issue might want to sign this online petition:

At least there you can see a count of how many people have expressed their opinion.

Nov 3, 2013 8:35 PM in response to handsOFFmydataby Retiredthailand,My time machine is fine, I can see all the backup when the computer is on, but I cant see anything in it from the restore screen, shows my time machice but shows up empty although it is good. Not sure what is happening.
I need to do it manually but it is close but not all there. after wiping my disk [wish not I just got a different phone] and not being able to do the restore when rebooting I went into my time machine, went to october 20, 2013 and it showed hard drive, i highlighted that, didnt cllick to open and hit restore. The machine works but not with everything. Not sure how to get my time machine to show up when rebooting and holding comand/r and clicking on the TM. Just wont show anthing in it. I tried to seach for that particular situation but I am not sure what to seach for, most just told me to do what I was doing. It appears I have to reload all my programs again?
I have the information but not the program
this sure is turning me off of apple

Nov 3, 2013 8:53 PM in response to Retiredthailandby handsOFFmydata,The only other thing that comes to mind is that you are not selecting an external drive that contains the TM data (in point 4 in the instructions). You need to select a TM drive ... seems obvious but look at the screen and double check what you see while at point 4.

Nov 3, 2013 10:45 PM in response to handsOFFmydataby Retiredthailand,it shows up on my screen not problem with everything in it. In the recovery it only allows one choice, which is my time machine. I click on that and the next screen is empty. Oh well
I am trying to do it manually and its working but really time consuming, all to get back my phone sync. If I knew I would have these problems I would have passed on it. Thanks for your help hands. Apple, well you know what I want to say

Nov 3, 2013 11:39 PM in response to handsOFFmydataby drowningindata,To add to what handsOFFmydata said:
@RetiredThailand, I have 3 backup/security methods.
A 2 Tb ext desktop HD that is my basic Time Machine backup.
A 1 Tb ext rugged portable drive with with another Time Machine backup - note, Time Machine will alternate
between these two drives each time it runs if both are connected. I carry this drive with me when I am away for a while.
And I keep all my current data, writing, banking, contacts, calendar etc on a thumb drive which I have with me whenever I leave the house, for a walk etc.
I will not trust my materials, files and data to any cloud service for long term storage.
A cloud service, like DropBox, can be handy though if you need to send someone a large file, but I would not leave any file on an external server, delete it as soon as possble.
I hope your recovery of data goes OK, good luck.

Nov 4, 2013 2:20 AM in response to Eliasorby brollyjohn,I agree with you about apple.com/feedback being a black hole.
So thanks for reposting that petition Eliasor. Sadly apple will pull your post with the link down off this board eventually. Best to post petition links to your social media as well.
The petition to bring back 100% local sync is blowing up!
It should reach it's goal before the end of the year or sooner if people keep signing and reposting!

Nov 4, 2013 7:27 AM in response to AndyDby berlugana,Hi Andy!
After reading through this thread, and being extremely frustrated at this mandatory iCould syncing issue, I decided I wished to downgrade back to Mountain Lion. As I had a backup done just prior to upgrading to Mavericks, I restored this to my HD after starting up from Recovery disk (accessed through starting with option key pressed). It did take 5 hours, but now I'm happy back to Mountain Lion and able to sync my iOS devices through USB.
I would like to send a message to Apple asking for a Mavericks update enabling USB-syncing.
How could all the people concerned with this get together to ask the same?
Have a great day, and do try to restore to Mountain Lion if you can!
Berlugana

Nov 4, 2013 8:31 AM in response to Gerrit7by drbarney2,I totally agree... eliminating the "Info" tab from iTunes to prevent local syncing of my iPad to my iMac is stupid. Makes no sense and putting personal info out in the cloud server is a dumb idea where it can be hacked... bring back the local sync/info tab in iTunes... PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

Nov 4, 2013 10:37 AM in response to Gerrit7by WH,BTW:
If you use "Siri" on iOS (you need to switch Siri ON), your whole address database is transfered to Apple Servers.
The reason is, that Siri can reply with answers depending on your address book.
Y dont know, what future we will have...
Only aside.--
I would recommend to make a clone backup with CCC (CarbonCopyCloner).
CCC makes a bootable clone. If you want to get back to your old OS version for any reason, you can startup this clone directly and clone it back to your original disk.
Its not bad anyway, to make a TM Backup, too, on a different partition or HD.
(If the originals are corrupted or bad, you could hurt a usual backup. TM as a versioning tool has this
advantages, but CCC has his advantages, too.
