How would that help you? Android doesn't include native local sync either... Google expects you to sync with their cloud.

You just don't know when to give up, after so many of your posts have been removed for this very reason. If you cannot comprehend that then I am not surprised that you have trouble with your computer.

jon from daneville - re NSA "asking" for info ... well thats a good point. That is true in the USA. I live in Australia where there are strong provacy laws. The European Union has similar privacy laws. These privacy laws mean another Government cannot just "ask" for my data in my country. Whether that Government is the USA, China or Russia.
And you really think that just because these laws exist that
you are protected? Anyone or any agency that really wants your
info will get get it, legally or not!!!

Don't worry Pete, I know when to give up. That's why my next computer won't have a rotten apple on it. Same goes for my phone. Besides, I don't have any trouble with my computer as I don't use Mavericks. And to prevent trouble in the future, I will stay away from bad fruit.

Nov 10, 2013 5:15 AM in response to Gerrit7by Mac Allan,A question if we can get back to the problem that we are supposed to be solving, I upgraded and then succesfully rolled back to Mountain Lion, my itunes is currently 11.1.1 and I am being asked to upgrade to 11.1.3.
If I upgrade, does anyone know if I will loose sync services and my ability to USB/WIFI sync calendars and contacts??

Nov 10, 2013 5:18 AM in response to Mac Allanby Livebox,I checked this yesterday and I can confirm that USB sync for Calendar and Contacts is available when using iTunes 11.1.3 on Mountain Lion.

Why would you? The SyncServices framework is part of the OS, not part of iTunes.

Nov 10, 2013 4:02 PM in response to RobertRTillmanby RobertRTillman,Gentleman, I would like to report back that syncing Outlook 2011 with my iPhone using Microsoft Exchange so far has worked perfectly. As I mentioned before, I have almost 10,000 contacts, many with extensive text in the notes section, and there have been no problems. Syncing occurs very quickly once I make a change on my computer. By the way, this is the only mechanism that I have found so far to easily sync Outlook and the iPhone. As I mentioned previously, given the removal by Apple of Sync Services from Maverick, there is no easy way to get data from Outlook to Apple Contact and Calendar, thus making iCloud syncing unusable even if you do not object to it.
I understand that the Microsoft Exchange solution is still cloud based and also costs $4/month, but at least it works for Outlook. For what is is worth, my feeling is that, if the government is interested in you, it will find a way to get your data. My main security concern is not the government but rather identity thieves. Microsoft Exchange security appears to be fairly robust, as it is used by large corporate customers who are far more interesting targets than am I. As Scott McNealy said in 1999, "You have zero privacy anyway. Get over it." I hate this sentiment with all my heart, but it is what it is.
I have signed the petition, for what it is worth, and wish you all the best. Now that I have solved my own problem to my satisfaction, I am signing off. I will check back periodically to see if anyone has found an easy to use and secure solution for syncing locally. Please be a bit nicer to each other.

Nov 10, 2013 9:04 PM in response to Gerrit7by rusty33m,Until a more elegant solution to syncing my calendar and contacts between my MBP on Maverick and my ipad and iphone (both iOS 7.0.3) is developed I have come up with a workaround that does it for me. I’m not interested in using iCloud for the reasons stated in previous post or going to the effort of adding a Mac Server.
My Outlook 2011 email accounts are POP on my MBP and mail IMAP on my iPad and iphone. I create all new calendar and contacts entries of my MBP.
For a new calendar entry in Outlook, I add my email address as an invitee, then on the ipad/iphone I open that email message and select the <meeting>.ics and select the “Add To Calendar” option. Repeating this for the other idevice, and now I have the new calendar entry on all 3 devices.
For a new Contact in Outlook, I create the contact as normal then right click on the new contact and select the “Forward as vCard” option and use my email address. On the ipad/iphone I open that email message and select the <contact>.vcf and select the “Create New Contact” option. Repeating this for the other idevice, and now I have the new contact entry on all 3 devices.
While this may seem to be a little convoluted, for me it’s works …

Nov 10, 2013 11:57 PM in response to ChrisW£by ChrisW£,To everyone, especially those thinking of using OS X Server, I thought I'd let you know my experiences with this and ask if anyone knows a solution.
I installed Server, exported my Calendar as an archive, and imported it into Calendar on Server. I then had duplicate events showing but turning off the display of the 'On My Mac' Calendars fixed this.
I then set up my iPhone to use the Server Calendars, turned off the Local copy, and tested sync in both directions. It works perfectly.
Now the bad news. I can't get my Contacts onto the Server. The import option is greyed out. This seems to be another change in Mavericks because the instructions (link posted on this forum earlier) use import. It seems the only way others have achieved getting their contacts onto Server is to cut and paste them from an iCloud copy which rather defeats the object of avoiding iCloud.
Any help would be appreciated.
