Q: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Well... I can see that there have been hundres of posts to the Original Question with many possibilities as a viable solution to the sync problem. My issues was loosing the 'Info" tab to sync my iPad. I sync my aclendar and contacts on my PC through iTunes which still has the "Info" tab.. for now I'm sure.

At any rate has anyone tried the software "GoodSync"? It just may be the answer1

GoodSync sounds like a file synchronization utility ... do you think it will synchronize calendar appointments and individual contacts?

This is the beginning of a non-Cloud workaround (although, as noted, it required a wireless connection via a wifi device).  Similarly discussed here, http://www.macworld.com/article/2061183/itunes-ios-syncing-gone-solve-it-with-se rver-.html  But, both ChrisWL's and the one discussed at MacWorld just don't seem to offer the play-by-play of how to set this up.  While this is a sub-optimal solution (I prefer wired sync myself and hope it comes back!), this might work, if someone explained it better.

This set of OSX Server setup instructions is more detailed:

I came upon this thread after encountering a sync bug in 10.8.5.  It's not the first time I've had issues with the SyncServices framework in 10.8.x.  In previous releases it worked very well.  I have filed a bug but I'm not holding out hope that Apple will fix it any time soon, considering their removal of SyncServices in 10.9.  I, too, would prefer not to have to use a "cloud" service to sync between my computer and phone.  Instead, I am investigating the possibility of writing my own software to do the sync between calendars on the iOS device and on the computer.  I'm not looking to rewrite SyncServices.  What I'm thinking of writing would only sync between the Apple Calendar and Contacts, and iOS. Anyone interested in buying such an application?  Just trying to gauge interest before I spend a bunch of time on it.

Many here has been disabled by removal of sync service in OSX 10.9. Many of them, including me, would gladly purchase an utility app that synchronizes calendar events and contacts between Mac (OSX) and idevices (iOS) over USB connection.

    How soon? ...

Mavericks slows down my MacBook Air, it makes file movements very difficult, and now this bit about having to push our confidential contacts (and calendar, perhaps?) through the cloud is really making me sad. I've been an Apple customer since the days of Lisa. I'm now packing my bags.

The path to iTunes Music folder had been modified (maybe during 10.9 installation)

She told me to point on the Music folder again and rebuild the library....

    And then : OK !

it synchronises, music is transferred normally

The above copied from another site...... Makes sense to me.

Would pay for such an app. Build it, dude.

Cool would be, being able to use wifi and usb.

Cool also would be, being able to backup the phone's contacts or calendars, with some format, that could be then reloaded into the phone as needed. This separate from syncing with the computer's software, and of course separate from itunes.

I have received a rather funny email from Apple:

This mail is notification that if you continue to violate the Apple Support Communities Use Agreement, Apple will disable your posting, reporting or other privileges for a period of time.

Well, Apple, I'm afraid that my ISP will kick me out if you notify them.

I would buy this for sure!!!

It would be great if you added syncing of notes and reminders. Apple kicked that out in Mountain Lion!

I myself am a java developer and I would like to comribute to this project. But I have no experience with connecting to iOS devices.

    Best regards

Most definitely interested if you pull off this software solution. For me needs to work with iPhones 3 to 5S, iMacs and Macbooks. Not necessarily simultaneously. Put me down for a copy.

Hax, YES of course there's interest. Just take a look at the top of the page, "60065 Views" ... those aren't people happy with the newly forced workflow  .  While I really like apple's software, I'd even be willing to move to a new calendar & address book if it weren't possible to integrate an outside sync with the native apps.  Be just like the ol' Palm Pilot days.
