Transfer Data To New iPhone

Hello,

I have an iPhone 4 that is currently (for various reasons) still running ios 4.0.1. I have now got a new iPhone 5s and am wondering if getting all my content from the old phone such as contacts, pictures, texts, calendar etc to the new phone is just a case of backing up the old phone in iTunes (Version 11.1.1) and then connecting the new phone and doing a restore?

Sorry for the basic question but I just wanted to double check as I don't want to loose the data currently on the iphone 4.

Yes, you can restore the backup from your old, iOS 4 phone to a new iPhone running any iOS later than iOS 4.0.1.

Note that if the "various reasons" you still run iOS 4.0.1 includes jailbreaking, this may not work and SOL.

Thanks for the quick reply guys.. The "various reasons" aren't to do with jailbreaking, the phone is still on the orginal IOS, I could almost say the key reason is that I just never got round to doing an update on it.

So will the backup transfer everything that is stored on the phone?

App, music and media are not inlucluded in the backup. They have to be synced from your iTunes library or redownloaded from the iTunes/App store (free).

Note that some of the apps on your old phone may not operate properly with iOS 7 and will have to be updated or replaced.

What about the Pictures that I have taken with the camera and are currently stored in the Camera Roll?

If they aren't included what is the best way of getting them off the phone?

I'm a bit new to the whole apple side so not totally sure how everything goes together.

Verify that you have installed the latest version of iTunes and the latest version of iOS before continuing.
Back up your old device using iTunes and transfer your data from your device to your computer. Find more information about iTunes backups.

Hello all me again.

I have done the backup as suggested by the link that was posted by AnaMusic, how ever I have connected the new iphone and clicked on restore backup. The backup process runs till the bar is nearly completed and then says "iTunes could not restore the iPhone "Paul's iPhone" becuase an error has occurred. The phone then reboots and doesn't have any of my data on it.

If I click the OK button it started to try and install all the apps from my library on the phone, i stopped the app install and tried to restore again but I get the same error message.

iTunes is prompting me to update the phone to IOS 7.0.2.

Any suggestions on how to contiune would be most welcome.
