Q: MacBook Pro black screen, no chime, no start up.

I was on my MacBook Pro and all of a sudden the screen went black, I shut it off by holding on the power button, but when I tried turning it back on, the screen remained black. There was no chime as it usually does when you start up your mbp. As I was searching about this problem, I concluded that the logic board may need need to be replaced. If that is the case how much will I pay to get it fixed and also will I lose all my files? I have many projects and school work saved on this laptop but never had a chance to back up any files. I have a 15", 500g, 2.2 ghz . Again, will I lose any of my files and how much does a logicboard repair cost. Thank you very much.

Had same issues and was about ready to buy new MBP

My laptop was apparently dead - no response at all to pressing start button, no sound nothing on screen no disc noise - nothing!

After reading this post disconnected battery and started up on mains - it started (though very slowly).

I shut down and did option command p and r restart and then all was OK

To confirm a duff battery I reconnected battery and tried a normal startup again and inexplicably everything works OK now!!

This saved me cost of new MBP.

    Thanks

I have a 2007ish MBP that had been working fine. One day, came into work and screen was black. I tried all the

    resets. Nothing.

I replaced the logic board. Nothing.

    Replaced the LCD. Nothing.

It makes noise when I cut it on, but black screen. No chime.

Any...ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a million. This worked wonders for my MBP early 2011, which had been misbehaving ever since I upgraded to 'El Capitan'. It was all but written off after phone call with AppleCare (who eventually suggested that it could be down to some hardware failure). Given that I had tried all the tricks in the book, this guidance saved the day for me. I did manage to backup all my data and the machine seems to be working fine as of now (although, it is still early days). Thanks once again!!
