How to allow VPN connection on iPhone while connected to home Wireless?

Hello there,

I recently setup a VPN on my phone to connect to the internet. However I'm having issues with my wiresless modem I think. I can connect to the internet via VPN on my phone when I'm on 4G network. But when I connect to Wireless at home it doesn't coonnect and fails everytime.

Can someone please help me figure out how to get this working? I have a Motorola Surfboard SB6121. Manual is here: http://www.arrisi.com/modems/datasheet/SB6121/SB6121_Installation_Guide.pdf

Thought, suggestions, comments? I'm open to ideas to get this to work.

Talk to your ISP about connecting to VPN's

Also to quote: "a VPN on my phone to connect to the internet"

That's what we would call redundant.

It's going to be so painfully slow if you pass everything over a VPN.

Who's your VPN provider?

I don't know the provider, but it's actually a VPN service to filter websites and bad content from the phone in any app, not just Safari.

Sorry, rookie question, who is and where do I find my ISP? Comcast?

It's called www.pageclean.com if you're interested in more info about who the VPN is, etc. But when it's on 4G, it doesn't seem slow at all.

Goto http://www.speedtest.net/

Run it and see what your throughput is (VPNs require a certain level of bandwidth)

Look for the IP address in the lower left 22.33.55.99 (this is just an example)

The name of your ISP is usually underneath it.

When at-home, you can use OpenDNS which is free and probably has the same effectiveness as pageclean.

But all that brings up a question, why are you giving an iPhone to kids?

Thanks for the reply Chattphotos.

For starters, I never said it was for my kids iPhone. It is to prevent bad websites coming through to my phone. Since I use my phone off my wifi network, I want to be protected all the time on the cellular network as well.

I am using Comcast to as my ISP. I will give them a call to work it out.

Also thanks for the OpenDNS suggestion. I went ahead and installed it and all worked fine. Much obliged.

Protected from what?

Hackers? Viruses? Bad/Infected Websites? (your provider does alot of that already) Plus, the iPhone is a very secure device, Apple designed it to be that way.

Just FYI, you are reducing your available battery life if you are constantly running a VPN connection over the 3G/4G network.
