Dec 17, 2013 2:09 AM in response to jon33414by Dr5baitso,I have this issue as well, though not nearly as bad as some of you are describing it. My iPhone 5s has done the shallow reboot (going to the apple screen for a second or two and then back) a couple of times since I bought it a few months ago. I always thought it was an OTA update or something, but it seems that's not the case. Anyway, it's a little annoying, but not much more at the moment.
However, I often have trouble answering phone calls. I can't swipe to answer until I've pressed the home buttom. Is this related, or a completely seperate issue? Anyone else have this problem?

Dec 17, 2013 10:19 AM in response to Randy Rannalsby Rogeliovilla,I am also having this problem but now I have started to also have the iPhone move by it self! It selects apps and exits them, it swipes on safari and prevents me from reading a page... I'm really worried since I bought this 5s 2weeks ago. I'm from mexico (not sure if this helps) and my carrier says that they'll take 2weeks to check the phone before they give me a new one... How's that for frustration, two weeks with out a phone! I have tried all the suggested things here and I still have the issue...

Dec 17, 2013 10:40 AM in response to Randy Rannalsby Georgialawchick,Was having same problem. Tried all the standard fixes - reset, restore even replaced one handset with Apple and still the problem persisted. Mine seemed to happen most often when unlocking the phone with Touch ID. was reading a blog post on the net and noticed that the author suggested he was having the same problem until he realized it seemed connected to Touch ID unlock with reduced motion set up. Turning off reduced motion resolved it for him - and seems to have resolved it for me as well. Once I turned off reduced motion, Touch ID works fine and no more random reboots. My guess is the software interplay between Touch ID and the reduced motion setting is conflicting and leading to the reboots. Hopefully Apple will fix in an update but, in the meantime, if you have reduced motion and Touch ID on and are experiencing reboots from the unlock screen, give turning off reduced motion a shot.

Dec 17, 2013 10:54 AM in response to Georgialawchickby haipower,You mean TURN ON reduce motion right? Because by default it's already off.
-
Dec 17, 2013 2:33 PM in response to haipowerby Georgialawchick,No, I mean turn off. I had turned reduced motion on because I'm not a fan of all the zooming in and out. Turning reduced motion back off seemed to fix the issue at least for me.

Dec 20, 2013 10:29 AM in response to Georgialawchickby Dan Med,This is in reply to Georgialawchick - Thanks for the tip! Turning off "reduced motion" seemed to fix the restart issues for me at least for the past 3 days, which is the longest I have gone without restarts. I too turned on "reduced motion" (within Accessibility settings area) as I didn't like all the zoom in/out features, and I was trying to conserve battery life as I seemed to have better battery experience without all the animated backgrounds and motion features. Hopefully Apple can fix this bug as it is quite annoying as can be seen all the replies in this forum.

Dec 20, 2013 11:36 AM in response to Dan Medby meatyard1970,This is all nonsense. I have restored, turned off motion, and still get random restarts. there is no pattern to them. most happen in the springboard when switching apps, somethimes in the camera, and sometimes for no reason at all. It can't be the fingerprint, because my iPad 3 restarts. restoring didn't help either.
Its embarassing. possibly the worst software bug i have encountered in iOS

Dec 20, 2013 11:54 AM in response to Randy Rannalsby steve_598,I can tell you that I had significantly more restarts when I had Reduced Motion turn on. I turned it off (default setting) and had fewer restarts. I tried turning it on again to see if that was really the problem and had more restarts. I still get about one restart a day which is still very poor stability but much better than getting many restarts per day.

Dec 20, 2013 12:57 PM in response to steve_598by meatyard1970,I use my phone all day, and I get maybe a restart once a week, maybe twice. My wife doesn't use her 5S nearly as much as me, and she sees multiple restarts every day. My iPad 3 gets used at night, and its had maybe 2 restarts since I installed iOS 7.

Dec 20, 2013 7:06 PM in response to Raj Venkatby Raj Venkat,Update on restart issue: contd..
With touch is off, my 5S worked flawless without restarts and multiple tasking and gaming and arc were smooth and snappy and awesome. After a week of testing the phone, with apple support I went back to using touch id.
Third day the restarts started.
How I wished the phone worked as it was with touch is off.
Anyways, my 5S is to be swapped.
I hope the issue gets with restarts in many 5s gets resolved soon. Maybe it is a hardware software issue with some of the units.
Hope my next phone works without any hitches.
I appreciate the way Apple support handled my issue over the last few weeks.

Dec 22, 2013 1:35 PM in response to Randy Rannalsby Partsa,Hello guys, i have an 5s 64gb, my phone since day one have this issue, also get freeze by seconds and sometime freeze totally and i have to hard reset the device. after doing all recommended procedures by apple, back up, start from zero, etc, tech support decide to replace my phone and tell you that i expected to be solved but no, same symptoms sill present...
I have been following this problem because really i wish to go back to a iphone 5 instead.
Moments that my phone is doing the restart is when:
- the phone is lock and i want to use the camera, instead of open the app just reset, try this 3 times one after the other.
- having the phone unlock and try to open the camera.
- try to open any app ( apple or not )
- it happen with little memory used or almost full memory.
I keep the phone with all apps close as possible and hard reset few times a month to keep the phone working properly. This very issue is new and make my $900 phone to be useless until this issue is addressed.
I have lost moment of memory to have pictures taken and i could not do it , very frustrating. Samsung owners laugh at me and Apple, and all i want is to have a fully functional smartphone.

Dec 28, 2013 4:47 PM in response to Partsaby ejb5oh,I am having similiar issue, phone does not restart but the slide to turn off red bar keeps showing up at random. Further, I have random key strokes in text messages and apps closing and opening all on their own. Very bizarre behavior. Good to see that this is hopefully a software bug that Apple will need to resolve soon.
I reply to you Partsa because I too have the same exact phone. Any worthwhile assistance would be awesome, hint hint apple!

Dec 28, 2013 7:11 PM in response to ejb5ohby Partsa,WE are not alone with these symptoms... We have to call apple support and inform the problems and wait to be resolved o. Futures ios updates.
THe behaivor you have i had it on previous versions of iphones and i was usi g a outerbox defender case to protect my investment, somehow with the dust that goes in little by little and touch screen start acting funny, even the keys when using the keyboard start flicking. So i renuonce to protect the pho e and got a cheap poetic slim version case and that got it solved...
AT this point i am using the phone less than usual beacuse i am to busy at the office, even with that i have the reseting issue one to twice a week.
GOod luck, and i will keep you posted if any change or fix is found.
happy new year 2014!!!
