no videos on internet. firefox

imac won't play any videos off internet anymore.

nothing. no youtube, no matter what source.

maybe triggered by: someone installed software for new canon scanner/pronter/fax attached to this imac.

how do I enable video?

(also, but maybe irrelevant. chrome stopped loading alltogether. will mnot open any page.)
