Q: iPhone 5 Will Not Restore in Recovery Mode

Hi everyone,

I am currently having a pretty serious problem with my iPhone 5 16GB (iOS7.0.2). Today, I discovered that my phone was "searching" for cell service despite being in an area with good coverage. This issue continued for 5 hours. I tried to turn it on/off, a hard reset, turning "airplane mode" on/off, and even tried to restore it! When I attempted to restore it however, iTunes told me that "Find my iPhone" had to be turned off. Then, I kept getting an error that there was a problem deregistering it from my iCloud account. Finally, I decided (after creating a full backup) to put the phone into recover mode and try to restore it that way. Not only, did I get an "error (1)", I attempted that FIVE times and now my phone is stuck in recovery mode. Hopefully, I can get it fixed or else I'll have to replace the thing.

PLEASE HELP ME.

P.S. I might add that oddly, the phone still receives calls; my wife tried calling the phone, and it not only rings, it even goes to voicemail...

Yes!  Put it in the freezer, then try again! It worked for me, here is a quote from another thread.

So, I put my 25 years of Semiconductor experience to work. I suspect that Error code (3) is likely a "write verify error" from the storage Flash that is generated during the install process. This would happen if a "bit" of the Flash "got stuck" as a "1" or a "0" either because of a "slow write" or a "slow erase". This is common in Flash technology. The "fix" is to "make the chips cold" as "cold" semiconductors will both "write" and "erase" easier than "warm" Flash semiconductors.

    This worked for me

follow all the steps apple suggests... If none of that works open your internet settings click on "Advanced" tab and Reset to default settings. Now try update. It worked for me so it's worth it to give it a shot

I tried numerous times to restore but kept failing.  Found a steer elsewhere on-line that advised connect iPhone using a different PC USB port... it worked for me, so certainly worth a try.

Hey I'm having the same problem where my iphone 5c is unable to restore (gets about half way on the loading bar and stops). Unkown error 16 pops up. I was wondering if you had a solution. The folks at the apple store said there was nothing they could do and just tried to sell me a new phone.

    Thanks,

    Cam

Not only did the trouble shooting not work but now its stuck and wont restore (it half downloads the new iOS then stops and gives me various errors 16, -1). Anyone fine a solution? I dont want to shell out 270 for a replacement 5s!

After a reset (Reset All Settings) a couple of days ago because I couldn't connect to anything, the 5s failed to restore on the Apple Logo.  Restore/Update on iTunes on WinXP failed also. After many, many hours of faffing I took the phone to my freinds who has a Mac.  Even then it took around seven attempts at Restore/Update to fix the thing, but eventually, it did.  The procedure is quite fast so rule of thumb is if all you see is static iTunes screen on the PC/Mac end then its not going to work.  Don't sit for hours and hours waiting - nothing is happening.

Six attempts at the Restore threw up an error 9 as well.  In the end I couldn't remeber what the procedure was (DFU/Recover for phone and Restore/Update for iTunes). So when is iTunes not iTunes?  When it's on a PC.

Did anyone find a solution to this problem?

Please, my iPhone is stuck in recovery mode and I can't restore or update due to many errors (such as 50 and 1671).

I put it in recovery mode in he beginning because of the 'searching' problem.
