2 day old 2013 iMac 27'' i5 here, migrated all my stuff seamlessly from a Time Machine back-up via Migration Assistant BUT.....here are all these gremlins sabotaging the whole lot !
i used to have connected to my previous iMac 27'' ( late 2009..)
- 2 X NewerTech Guardian Maximus Raid enclosures, loaded w/ 2 X Western Digital 3TB drives set up in Raid1 which used to work PERFECTLY via FW800
then distributed among 2 X Logitech Premium USB powered hubs i had these :
- 2 X Western Digital My Book 2TB USB 2.0 drives w/ videos & photos, etc... also NEVER missed a beat...
- 2 X Western Digital My Book 1TB USB 2.0 drives for Time Machine duty
these My Book drives are kept exactly equal to one another w/ CarbonCopyCloner ( been a while i've added/removed files..) & i ''alternate'' between them like every week or so..
- 1 X charging cradle for my iPhone 3GS
- 1 X HP Photosmart C6180
- 1 X APC UPS
& finally 1 X Cambridge Audio Dacmagic hooking up to the iMac via optical then on to hi-fi amp. all of this worked like clockwork
before i got this new iMac i did my homework reading as much as i could about my new machine to try prevent & minimise any ''teething troubles'' as much as possible
once i got it, i proceeded to uninstall iTunes 11 ( hate the **** thing..) & reinstall iTunes 10.7 using Pacifist - apparently it all went well...
next logical step was to connect peripherals to it, right ? having read Apple's FAQ about using USB3 devices ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5172#3to2 ) i followed scrupulously the instructions, starting with 1 Guardian Max via USB 3 & only then connect the USB 2 stuff.
all seemed fine except....the Guardian Max started ejecting itself every couple of minutes even before i had a chance of connecting any USB 2 : iTunes hanging/freezing followed by a ForceQuit, report to Apple, switch off the drive, start all over again &....SAME THING !!
tried another USB 3 cable - same thing, used same cables ( both are new ) to connect to USB2 hubs - all good : the GuardianMax worked fine & i could listen to some music for quite a while !..
tried going back to USB 3 connection & it started acting funny almost immediately + i got this funky message which i had had earlier but somehow had managed to ''overcome''
just now i went back to connecting it to the USB 2 hub &, here i am listening to music while typing !! ARGHH !!!....LOL....oh man, talk about frustrating
being able to launch iTunes without any trouble via USB 2 hub to me means that :
1 - the USB 3 out of the Guardiuan Max IS working ( at least in USB 2 mode right ? )
2 - the cables are OK
3 - iTunes 10.7 is properly installed
or am i missing something ? any suggestions, other troubleshooting i might be able to do
sorry for such a long post about such a stupidly small problem, any help will be VERY appreciated
regards to all
