timed out?

I am trying to synchronize an iPad 2 to a MacBook. The iTunes 11.1.1. (11) on the MacBook never recognizes the iPad. It only gives me this dialog box:

The iPad has a passcode, but I have entered the passcode. The iPad works normally.

The iPhone backs up automatically to iTunes.

How do I get iTunes to recognize the iPad?

Which OS X is installed on your Mac?

Try disabling the passcode then try syncing to your Mac using iTunes.

I have 10.6 on the MacBook and 10.7 on the MacBook Air. The synchronization in iTunes does not work on either computer.

I will try disabling the passcode next.
