can I send mac os 10.4 ical events to ipad

I would like to send my shift pattern from ical to my ipad. As they are both apple you would think this is easy. I sent the exported ics file to the icloud email and nothing appeared as an attachment. How can i do this easily without having to input 8 weeks of shifts?
