How do I restore past events to my iPad calendar?

I use the calendar on my IPad a lot, but when I went to look at an event from 6 weeks ago, I realized all my events except the recurring events from more than 30 days ago were missing. I found online that I should change my "sync" under settings->calendars to something more than 'the last month', which I did. I changed it first to 'all events', waited about 30 minutes, and when my past events still didn't show up I tried again with '6 months'. Still none of my past events are showing. I don't use calendars on any other devices (Mac or phone). Any other suggestions on how to restore my events?

Thanks!

Dear Axeman,

I have read through all your thread and responses, did everything you have suggested. However when I sync my iphone 5s to itunes on my mac and check the box "calendar" under "advanced - replace information on this iphone" it only brings over 1 year of calendar data. I also made sure that in my iphone settings I marked "all events" and on itunes I did not check mark the box "do not sync events older than...". I am at a loss at this point.

The main reason why I needed to replace the calendar data on my iphone with my calendar on my mac was when I upgraded my phone to IOS 10.3.2 the "location" data in my calendar events disappeared on my iphone. When I synced both my iphone and ical on the mac via itunes, it still did not show up. However when I replaced the data on my phone with the ical, then they started showing up again. The ical events on my mac are inclusive meaning they contain all the events even before last year, but for some reason the itunes sync/replace does not bring them over. Last info, my iphone has plenty of memory available, so I doubt that has anything to do with memory. Thank you very much in advance for your assistance on this.

Thank you Goxlet. I am not even able to navigate manually to calendar events older than a year. I can see the "dots" if I view the calendar in a calendar format (by month view) but when I click on any of those dates older than a year, the list format does not pull them into view. It will show up in the left upper corner for example "August 2014" with arrow pointing to the left, but the list starts with May 2016 and won't let me scroll further up. Very annoying needless to say.
