Q: How do I restore past events to my iPad calendar?

I use the calendar on my IPad a lot, but when I went to look at an event from 6 weeks ago, I realized all my events except the recurring events from more than 30 days ago were missing.  I found online that I should change my "sync" under settings->calendars to something more than 'the last month', which I did.  I changed it first to 'all events', waited about 30 minutes, and when my past events still didn't show up I tried again with '6 months'.  Still none of my past events are showing.  I don't use calendars on any other devices (Mac or phone).  Any other suggestions on how to restore my events?

Thanks!

thank you so much!  this worked. I'm not sure how I lost all calendars that were prior to the current month but I verified on icloud.com that the content WAS there, did what you dated above and it all came back!

Just to be clear, nothing was lost.

All the events exist in iCloud, it is just a matter of telling the phone how far back you want it to sync.

ok - thanks for the clarification but I have another question.  IF I hadn't resolved this that day and my phone was backed up to icloud that night, would the older content that was in icloud get replaced with the nothing that was on my phone calendar? That's the piece that I'm worried about.  I use my phone calendar for everything!  If icloud is only a backup of what is on your phone daily, is there any way to go back and get older data?  Any type of archiving process?  I logged into icloud.com from a browser and saw that the content was there before trying what you suggested above to reinitiate the syncing to my phone to pull down from the cloud.  tks.

Calendars don't get backed up (neither does any other content that is stored in iCloud or synced from other mail providers). They reside on the server of the email provider and not on your device.

For instance, if iyou have a Gmail calendar, the calendar resides on the Gmail server. When you sign into your Gmail account, your Gmail email, contacts and calendars will sync to your device. The same would be true for iCloud, Yahoo or any other email provider.

    Here’s what iCloud backs up:

    • Purchase history for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and booksYour iCloud backup includes information about the content you have purchased, but not the purchased content itself. When you restore from an iCloud backup, your purchased content is automatically downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store. Some types of content aren’t downloaded automatically in all countries, and previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the store. For more information, see the Apple Support article iTunes in the Cloud availability by country. Some types of content aren’t available in all countries. For more information, see the Apple Support article Which types of items can I buy in my country?.
    • Photos and videos in your Camera Roll
    • Device settings
    • App data
    • Home screen and app organization
    • iMessage, text (SMS), and MMS messages
    • Ringtones
    • Visual Voicemail

Your iOS device backup only includes data and settings stored on your device. It doesn’t include data already stored in iCloud, for example contacts, calendars, bookmarks, mail messages, notes, shared photo streams, My Photo Stream, and documents you save in iCloud using iOS apps and Mac apps.

ok - this helps. I'm only using the calendar that is checked under iCloud  - not any of the ones associated with my email accounts on Yahoo.  tks.

I have an IPAD and also can't see any prior entries other than recurring entries.  I did as instructed and went to Icloud.com on the web and all my old entries are there.

I then went to:  Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > In the Calendars section tap Sync > All Events

Everyone else said this seemed to work for them, but it didn't work for me.  In the original answer to the question it also had this instruction

    Then

Settings > iCloud > toggle off Calendars, delete from phone. Wait for it to finish then turn it back on

When I do this "delete from phone" isn't an option, only "delete from my Ipad" or "Keep on my Ipad".  I was afraid to choose "delete from my ipad", but is that what I need to do to get the old items to show up?

    Thanks!

    Jana

You can choose Keep on iPad then when you turn it back on you will be prompted to Merge.

Thanks Axeman, I had chosen merge when I did it the first time and that didn't help, but found my problem.  In my calendar under Show Calendars, All icloud wasn't selected.  Once I did that and changed to All Events under calendar settings as you directed, I have all my old entries.

    Hi Axeman,

I'm having the same trouble with my iPhone 4s and this solution is not working for me.

My settings are already set to 'sync all events' in my calendar.

Could you please shed some light on what I can do to get my calendar events back?

    Thanks ☺️
