If the computer is still in warranty, you can take the computer to the Apple store to have
it fixed.
A Mac is in warranty for 1 year from the date of purchase.
If AppleCare is purchased in the first year of owning the computer,
warranty is extended for additional two years.
Best.

As goofy as it sounds, when I got asked that question some 15 years ago to people who brought in broken laptops, ....id ask them "do you eat lots of spicy foods or drink lots of citrus"?
Theyd look at me like Im a nut and ask "yeah, whats that gotta do with anything?!"
lol Skin acidity varies so widely on some people its rather amazing.
One chap I know takes in so much VItamin C, he can wet his finger and touch bare steel and make it corrode almost before your eyes. 😊
the white silk screening of those letters will strip from skin acidity 😊
strange how its never happened to the last ten key boards i have used a lot over last 15 years plotinus veritia , are macbook airs the only one laptops that react to vitimin c , my other lap top macbook book pro has white letters and does not react to vitamin c over the years , neither ,maybe better asking custumer if they like oranges before selling macbook air ,
thats a bit drastic of course. 😊
There are countless factors, skin lotion, baby oil, solvents used to clean the keyboard.
No, darren, I haven't.
Aparently it's a very strange situation.
I'd follow dominic's advice and take it in.
Ok, let's do a Reality Check, or aadjustment.
First, the letters on your keyboard aren't painted on. It is exactly the other way around. The keycap is initially translucent white and everything but the letter glyph gets painted over black. That way, in bright surroundings it looks white on black and in dim, the backlighting shines thru. My experience is that the main cause of failure is wear: you simply microabrade the black paint off. Same thing happened with the pre-unibody models that had silver keycaps with black lettering. Have had that happen to me on all my Macs of this century (4).
Fix? Apple will NOT fix it, AppleCare or not. Calls it a "cosmetic defect", which is explicitly NOT covered. However, they will happily offer to repair it on your dime by replacing the entire "topcase", meaning the whole chassis of the Mac with keyboard and trackpad included. To the tune of $700-$900, at least on MBPs like mine. Or you can mosey over to http://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/ choose your model, purchase the keycaps that are damaged, pop them off and install new. I've already done 4 of mine, plus one that broke off.
reality check,.....
I never mentioned it being covered by Apple or by Apple care. I know such wear is owner abrasion..... however such cases are usually not abrasion rather acid skin wear,....either way though it's not a defect rather usage marks. Also very possible due to rough skin on fingertips.
As to dominic and B being wrong that it will "be fixed".. you yourself do not know that and the OP should contact Apple, given the cost of keys are next to nill and Apple cust. service is #1, nobody knows the exact answer to 'covered or not'
*you are however correct on the letter glyphs.,, the keys are inverse over opaque. however its not painted rather a screening coat.
I'm so used to seeing 100,000+ keyboards over the years that are black plastic with white silk screening. As such, the silk screen comment was my error and I actually knew better, ..😊
~~Regardless of these facts, ...cursing did not validate your point one iota.
correcting a minor error by cursing in a family board is beneath you and shows poorly upon the decorum you are intended to present.
Peace😊
macbook translucent reverse screened keys:
its extremely ODD that your home letters (D F in the picture) arent smudged
99% of the time, THOSE are the ones getting most of the wear due to fingers resting on the home buttons.
just sending it to apple well see what the facts are , thank you for help ,
Yep, the same keys I swapped out a couple of weeks ago. Also had problems with the S. The wear pattern goes like this:
My A key started getting to the third stage and I had not forseen to purchase a spare. So for now I "repaired" the clearcoat with a dab of automotive touch-up paint (clear, of course) and it seems to be holding up well. But once the light starts shining thru, the keycap is toast.
