How many years is the iPhone warranty in UK/EU?

I've bought last year an iPhone 5 from UK, but I live in Bulgaria. I bought it directly from an Apple Store. Can someone tell (if he/she is absolutely sure) how many years is the warranty in EU for iPhone? Apple gives 1 year hardware within EU. However according to the EU and Consumer's laws, there is a minimum of 2 years warranty within EU (some countries have even 5 or 6 like UK).

Peter,

I have bought the phone unlocked from UK Apple Store. So the Carrier has nothing to do with it.

Currently everything with the phone is OK, I am just researching in case something happens - I guess I will have to ship it back to UK, the question is will Apple accept it for a repair/replacement.. We have a Premium Service Provider here in Bulgaria, but I suppose they will definitely not accept it.

Are you sure about this? I mean, if a phone is poorly manufactured it doesn't mean that the problem will appear in the first six months.. It may break at later point.. At least that was the case with my macbook pro, which Apple denied to take, because the warranty had exceeded the 12 months.

Apple do not accept mail in.

You have a choice go to your carrier, or Authorised Service provider in Bulgaria or any other EU country

or bring it to UK ( or send it to a "friend") for warranty within 12 months


If you wish to exercise any " other " warranty claims based on EU "legislation" you will have to present yourself with the device at at an Apple Store in UK and only the UK to debate with seller ,whoever they are and that includes Apple Store

Oh and take your Lawyer with you

I quoted that directly from Apple, so yes, I'm sure. Again, the burden of proof that a defect existed at the time of sale is up to the consumer, and for a product that fails months after the date of sale that will be difficult to prove. But should a problem arise after the 12-month warranty expires, you can always make a claim to Apple and see what happens.

  • When my iPhone 5 broke Apple refused to replace or fix it. It was fourteen (14) months old ⚠
  • When my iMac broke I had to wait 60 days for Apple to agree, that it's indeed covered by the Protection Plan ⚠


Apple does not provide a 2-years warranty, it sells Protection Plans ⚠ It's then the sellers responsibility (or importer) to fix the product according to EU Consumer Law. Unfortunately that doesn't work that well in practice. Select the retailer carefully, bigger retailers may offer a 3-years warranty for free.

GO in to their website. But they wriggle out it. I thought Apple would be reliable that's why we all pay 3 or 4 times more for them but they are Not. I'm going in to a UK store in a week and am going to ask about this 6 years. I should have realised that my laptop would be rubbish - why after all do they give only one year warranty IF they are so great and expect you to pay another £150 for further warranty. Big scam.

it's the law which goes, apple has to follow the law of the country

that being said the eu 2 year warranty is a scam


only for the first part of the warranty is the burden of proof on the seller

after that the burden of proof is on you the consumer


if you knew how much money carrying the burden of proof in such a matter would be compared

to the cost of the device you would realise that the 2 year warranty is a real 2 year warranty unless you bought a aircraft carrier
