Macbook Air 11" mid 2013 battery last 3 hours

Hello everyone,

I'm just going crazy with my new Macbook Air 11" 128GB, 8GB RAM. My very worried about my battery life. It just last 3 hours with a complete charge. I've already read that Dropbox and Skype drains battery but I'm comparing with another MBA as same as mine and it last for 10 hours with the same usage of apps.

There you go the output from Etrecheck:

I don't see anything that can provoke such a bad preformance, nothing is keeping the CPU busy. Skype jumps to 50% cpu usage max when I'm using video conference, but anything else, even if I'm using Virtual box with Windows 7. Fans runs normally. I don't know what to do.

Skype is most likely to be the cause of the problem, but if you don't agree, see below.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.

If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

Savyna,

first of all, battery life is not really dependent on just CPU%.

The Etrecheck list is "heavy" with all sorts of apps that you may better not have when you do not really need them.

1. Uninstall the TimeMachineEditor. This can cause a lot of trouble, ask Pondini the TM specialist, google Pondini and you willl find his blogs and TM exposes.

I experimented with the two most known TM schedulers and in both cases it caused problems, from a "hesitating" computer to shortening battery life.

2. If you do not need Virtualbox, uninstall it. A resource-eating app. If you must have it (Or any other VM app) use it sparsely: starting manually, and quitting as soon as you have finished.

3. You can miss the Logitech Control Center I suppose, it uses more resources by running in the background than you should suspect.

4. Protech NOSLEEP must be uninstalled, you can set the Energy Saver to your needs.

5. Uninstall Orbicule, does not bring more safety than already is in the OS.

-----

In general, avoid software that inject kext (kernel extensions) files inside the belly of the OS !!

-----

6. Uninstall the Delayed Launcher, this may be bring something in a Windows environment, but OSX is perfectly well capable to do the job of starting your machine.

7. Teamviewer: is your machine the host or the guest?

8. 1Password, although a very useful application, I have seen some issues in 10.8.5. Maybe that is a temporarly item.

9. Valve Steam: a well known resource eater, and known for issues.

Edit: 10. Chrome uses much resources, and is as fast as Safari and less safe.

------

I guarantee a much better machine without Valve, Protech, Orbicule, Delayed Launcher, Chrome, TimeMachineEditor;

and even much much better without the Virtualizer VB and Logitech.

-------

Sounds terrible, isn't it?

Whatever you do: after doing what you think right (or enough), post a new Etrecheck list: it will show whether the uninstalls were complete.

Have Fun, it is a beautiful machine, and you are right: battery life could be much better,

Lex

Much better, good work.

A. Still to delete by hand:

1. com.orbicule.uc.plist

this is in the LaunchDaemons folder:

SSD /Library/LaunchDaemons/

and

2. com.orbicule.UCAgent.plist

this is in the Deneve/Library/LaunchAgents/

if you do not find it there look in

SSD /Library/LaunchAgents/

B. You do not need Alfred and SmartBatteryMonitor. Better uninstall them. And remove both from SystemPreferences/Users&Groups/ LoginItems tab. Then restart the mac.

If you insist to have a better info about the battery use CoconutBattery (start when necessary and Quit when done), this one keeps a good history at the same time.

Complete info about the battery is already in the SystemIformation : click the apple menu, press the Alt(=option) key, choose "SystemInformation", look under "power".

Ok I finally managed to solve the problem. I tried everything you told me and the same day I decided to try Mavericks. When I was installing Mavericks, the installation went wrong and it restarted after an error message.

After that the machine won't boot up even reseting the PRAM, the CMD + R controls didn't work.

I went to my nearest Apple Store and they kept the machine and today they've returned and diagnosed that the ssd from Toshiba was faulty.

Now I've my computer running showing the amazing 11:35 hours of battery life at the moment.

Thank you all for the support!
