Self supplied IP address is confounding me - can't resolve

I ran into the self supplied IP address problem on my MacBook Pro. Every other Apple device in the house works just fine. Using an Airport Extreme base station for WiFi. Had to put in a static IP address to connect to the internet. That is the only thing that seemed to mark a difference and work at all. I've been completely unable to get DHCP to work, and I tried every fix I could find.

Very weird problem! The MacBook Pro has been working for 15 months. I don't understand why this started or how to fix it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Adam

Hold down the option key and select the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar. What values are shown for the following?

PHY Mode

Channel

Security

Signal/Noise or RSSI

Transmit Rate

Now hold down the option key again and select

 ▹ System Information... ▹ Network ▹ Wi-Fi

Compare the two-letter Country Code with the ISO code for your country. The code X0 means that the country couldn't be determined. Does it match?
