Compatibility with Windows 8.1

Since the installation of the Windows 8.1 update, iTunes is shutting down when I try to reach the iTunes Store. I tried to reboot my pc and to re-install iTunes but I still have the same error. Do you have any idea? Thx

I am using Windows 8.0 and iTunes. In the compatibility notes for Windows 8.1 it indicates that iTunes is incompatible. Until Apple issues an update to iTunes to be compatible with Windows 8.1, I will not update Windows. I use iTunes every weekend to download podcasts, so I do depend on iTunes more than having the latest version of Windows.

So to Apple, please issue an update for compatibility with Windows 8.1.

I have upgraded iTunes to 11.1.2.31, and this seems to have fixed the problem, so I suggest (tentatively, because I know how these things can sometimes go) that if you are having my problem (i.e. needing to accept the T&Cs and sign in to your account every time you start iTunes in Windows 8.1), then installing the latest version of iTunes is probably the way to go. Naturally, I take no responsibility, etc. etc. Good luck! 😉

As I mentioned in another post, I'm also using Windows 8.1 (x64) and 11.1.2.32 has big problems:

- Starting up (in album view) takes ages (4-5 minutes ??)

- When you change to another view, e.g. Songs it crashes (actually just hangs, locks up)

11.1.1 works fine (somewhat slow start-up, 5-10 secs, but works fine)

Have to admit I have a big library. On other sites, I've also seen reports from Mac users with the same issue, so it's not just a Windows thing.

@DJScottyD : no, doesn't help.

The problems I'm having with 11.2.32 are linked to a large library.

The "trick" with copying the Quicktime DLL didn't help as well.

I already submitted a report to Apple, hopefully they will pick this up. For me at the moment:

11.1 = OK with large libraries (> 500 GB) and Windows 8.1 x64

11.2 = NOT OK with large libraries (> 500 GB) and Windows 8.1 x64

11.2 after a fresh install works ok, even with some songs in your library. I didn't check where things go wrong.

I have seen similar reports on the OS X side of things, so perhaps it's in their database code.

Makes you wonder.. whether they test these "performance optimizations and bug fixes"....
