Q: My IPhone If I can't pair my iPhone with my macbook how do I use airdrop?

I have an iPhone 5 and a Macbook Pro (retina) and they will not connect via Bluetooth, and as AirDrop requires Bluetooth I can't use it - or am I missing something.

Why won't Bluetooth work between two Apple devices?

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.2

Head phones, FTP, allows iPhone to act as a modem for Internet access, printer, etc.

Using a Bluetooth mouse/keyboard is completely different from file transfer on an iPhone.  Heck... you can use a bluetooth keyboard with your iPhone if  you like... I don't see how this is at all relevant to the question at hand.

    KiltedTim,

    1. I can't use AirDrop to transfer files from my iPhone to my MacBook Air. OK with that (I understand: this feature can only be used to transfer files from my iPhone to another iPhone or from my Mac to another Mac).

    2. I can't use Bluetooth to transfer files from my iPhone to my MacBook Air. OK with that too (Iunderstand: I can use this feature to connect my iPhone to my car, etc...).

    3. So, can you tell me how to use the Bluetooth feature on my MacBook Air? (other than to connect wireless hearphones or boomboom box).

    Thank you

That is a question for the Mac forums. It's not rocket science. You can pair it with bluetooth keyboards, mice and trackpads. Have you even tried?

Why would you pair a bluetooth keyboard, mice or trackpad on a ...MacBook Air?

The bluetooth feature on the MacBook is to pair head phones or a boom box.

    1. To use a full keyboard with separate numeric pad with the MBA. (One of my associates does this with his MBP)
    2. To add a standalone numeric pad next to the MBA ((I do this, and also have a 25" separate display; BTW, the Microsoft BT numeric pad works great with the MBA)
    3. To use a mouse if you hate touchpads
    4. To use a larger external touchpad
    5. To use a BT drawing tablet with the MBA

    KiltedTim,

I was just kidding. I think that features like Bluetooth & AirPlay are way too restricted between devices and OS made by the same manufacturer. All should sync flawless.

That's why we buy them, right?

    Lawrence Finch,

    Thank you for your list.

Just to clarify. Airdrop is a file transfer protocol. Regardless of the devices you use, it is not a way to sync them.

    Meg St._Clair,

"Regardless of the devices you use": Really? Did you verify yourself? Have you tried to transfer a file with AirDrop between your iPhone and your Mac?

"It is not a way to sync them": When you transfer a file, sorry, but it is a way to sync devices.

Thank you anyway for your answer.

No, you cannot use Airdrop to transfer files between Macs and iOS devices. However, that's not what I meant. I was attempting to clarify (and apparently failing) to point out that Airdrop is for transferring files. Transferring files is not the same thing as syncing. You cannot sync an iOS device using Airdrop. For further understanding, google "synchronization".

    Best of luck.

You don't know what you're talking about.  READ this thread.
