I believe that during the video about users and the Mac Pro, that it was stated a new Aperture had been designed for use with Mavericks. In view of there being a new iPhoto, that does not seem far fetched. Haven't found any other announcement about it, yet.

Don't want to drag you down guys. Just read this on the mac pro performance page:
"Tested with prerelease OS X 10.9 and prerelease Aperture 3.5 using RAW images. Performance tests are conducted using specific computer systems and reflect the approximate performance of Mac Pro."

So the "new" version of aperture might just be 3.5.

Thanks for pointing us to that. However, the move from 3.2.x to 3.3 and onward was significant update, so could be more than numbering indicates.
Until I can get a new MP, I am better off with whatever version will still run on Lion so that I can continue to share the library between my rMBP and the MP.

Not clear what is new about SmugMug, but must be able to do with a plug-in. Interesting since I am a SmugMug user.

Not necessarily a bummer. There was a spec bump to the existing Aperture around the same time as the last major release.
You can now upload directly to SmugMug (as you can with Facebook and Flickr). You don't need to use or buy a 3rd party plugin to do so.
It works quite well in my experience. I need to see if I can delete photos with it; I have some cruft in SmugMug now and this could help a lot...

Does it give you complete control over the size version you upload to SmugMug, including full size?

No luck in seeing 3.5 Update--,having called Apple Suppport and then referred to Pro App Support...they told me to wait till tomorrow and try updating and if no luck get back in touch with Applecare.
It does sync. After I added my SmugMug account in Aperture Preferences -> Accounts, all my existing galleries got pulled into Aperture in the Shared section.
In my anecdotal testing it uploaded an original size image. There's no setting in the Aperture dialog for what size to upload. It assumes full size apparently.
short update: no aperture x in the keynote. Here's an interview with that photographer:

Thanks for this, but this is a questionable feature in my opinion. My primary camera is my Nikon D800, and I almost never allow its full size 7360 x 4912 images to upload to SmugMug, opting for a fit within 4288 x 4288 instead (the size of my images from my long used D300).
Also, I sometimes upload from a different library to SmugMug, and don't want all albums pulled into my primary library. The FB sync has already presented problems when wanting to connect to FB when remote, but not wanting to sync to a library that is limited to the internal drive.

I have the same problem. Even worse, after opening the new iPhoto I can't read my aperture library anymore.
Upgrade Aperture to version 3.5, then the library will be compatible again.
