Any problem installing OS Mavericks

I was just wondering if the install had any problems

No, it doesn't work. I figured out it's the problem with Java. The java update was corrupted. Since I guess AppStore and Safari use java, it failed royally. It doesn't seem there is a way to do a full upgrade. The upgrade is delta update so if it is corrupted, there is no way to repair the corrupted java file. I can't even use AppStore to re-install Java.

Yes, for some reason every install since and including Snow Leopard have done this. If you select Show Process, you will see that it is still installing data evn while saying 1 minute left. Patience is a virtue, luckily.

If the Install Mavericks application resides on an EXTERNAL drive (in my case a Firewire drive), the installation is stuck on the Boot screen with the Apple logo and the wheel (probably because FW drivers are not loaded yet). If the application is copied to an internal drive, it works correctly. I have upgraded to Mavericks on a DIY Fusion drive which also has Bootcamp. No issues so far.

Flip4Mac (and some other plugins may not work or may require upgrades - http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1222069 )

The same FW drives works properly when connected after the Mavericks upgrade.

You may be running into an issue because Mavericks may not be able to deal with a Bootcamp partition AND a missing Recovery HD (SL does not have one).

Ignoring your iPod, can you run the two commands (fdisk and gpt) and post the output here?

Is there a possibility that you can

1. Backup your SL.

2. Delete the BOOTCAMP partition (after you have a good backup of your Windows installation)

3. Install Mavericks with a single OS X partition

4. Re-install Windows.

Nicoladie...

From your link...

System requirements

  • A Mac running OS X Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks with an existing Recovery System on its startup volume.
  • An external USB hard drive or thumb drive with at least 1GB of free space

Are you certain SL will let you create a Recovery partition? I do not have SL handy to test it.

Yes, the recovery disk partition was introduced after Snow Leopard to allow you to install/recover without using an external DVD disk or thumb-drive.

It doesn't mean that you cannot add the recovery disk partition in Snow Leopard without reformating it.

That is, in Snow Leopard, you can only install OSX using an external disk. But you are not installing Snow Leopard any more. That is why when you install OSX later than Snow Leopard, you can use the recovery disk partition within your internal drive to install without needing an external disk.

Because the recovery disk partition is not in your Snow Leopard volume, you have to create it manually. Then you can install Maverick using the newly created disk partition to install it.
