Can't zoom in or out in video mode - 4th gen ipad, ios 7.0.2

Today I discovered that I should be able to zoom in and out while in Video Mode in the Camera app. There is no slider at the bottom of the screen, and I've tried pinching my fingers. I'm stumped. Is there anything I need to do in settings? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

The option to zoom while in video mode has never been available.

Oh yes it has. I was using the zoom in feature on playback to my students and it was one of the reasons I purchased the ipad.

After upgrading to ios7 it is now not possible. This has demolished one of my key teaching methods

Very disappointed that this was not mentioned prior to upgrade.

As it was a previous feature why can it not be re instated?

Answers please!

thanks for the suggestion Ledidde. However, the double tap 'jumps' straight in to a level of noise that is highly pixelated and unstable due to the amount of Shake at that level of zoom.

On ios 6, the two finger zoom on playback was easily controlled both in and out, enabling a slow zoom in to whatever extent needed to view detailed painting actions, resulting in clear video playback.

Apple clearly need to revisit this issue and revert the software back to how it was before I support them on this one.

Why change it in the first place?

Sadly disappointing.

I have the same complaint. Don't understand why zoom in/out for video playback was taken away while my iPad 2 can't zoom in/out while shooting video! Very disappointed with Apple. If zoom in/out function is taken away and video shooting zoom in/out is not available on iPad 2, why in the world should have Apple asked iPad 2 users to update to iOS7?! Apple IT, please give us an option to "downdate" back to iOS6. Why Apple is not considering reverse compatibility even for its own products? Very disappointed and frustrated. Will have a second thought of getting another Apple product. As of today 2014Mar11, after updated to iOS7.1, still can't zoom in/out of the videos playback.

Try going to Settings - General - Accessibility - Zoom and switch it on (it seems to me it's 'off' by default).

Zooming is now controlled by 'three' fingers!

Double-tap with three fingers and slide up the screen to zoom in.

Double-tap and slide down to zoom out.

Simple double-tap to return to normal size.

This works with videos. In fact it works even 'now', as I'm typing this here in Safari! It works on the 'home screen' - it works in 'Notes'. It seems to work everywhere in iOS 7.1

So, get your video on screen - use three-finger-slide zoom to achieve required zoom level - play.

Hope this helps!

Alison, I sympathise with your situation. After 30+ years in the classroom myself I know well the pain that follows the 'upgrade' to the IT system that then won't run your tried and trusted computer program!

Try this on your iPad - it works on mine.

Try going to Settings - General - Accessibility - Zoom and switch it on (it seems to me it's 'off' by default).

Zooming is now controlled by 'three-finger' actions! (although the original two-finger pinch still operates as well, on actual photos though not videos, I find)

Double-tap with three fingers together and slide up the screen to zoom in.

Double-tap and slide down to zoom out.

Simple double-tap three fingers to return to normal size.

This works with videos. In fact it works even 'now', as I'm typing this here in Safari! It works on the 'home screen' itself! - it works in 'Notes'. It seems to work everywhere in iOS 7.1

So, get your video on screen - use three-finger-slide zoom to achieve required zoom level - play.

Hope this helps with your lesson plans!

Thank you to Eh Can and thebigjwa for your time in supporting my problem and finding the time to reply.

My faith is restored in the feedback process, as now yes, we can triple tap for a JUMP to zoom, but can control the ins and outs with a double tap hold and slide.

Better, thank you Apple, not as smooth as the two finger slide as the whole ipad wobbles initially, but at least we have control now.

Happy bunny, happy tutor, happy students. :-)

Actually, there is absolutely no need to thank Apple. The accessibility zoom has been a feature since at least IOS 6, probably even before. They didn't replace the ability to zoom on video playback with the "three finger zoom", they simply removed the old zooming.

I've sent feedback to Apple telling them how useful zooming video playback "was", but they have not replied, not even with a "screw you, we do what we want".

Sorry if this post seems angry, but I am angry at Apple for removing such a useful feature.
