Not only was mail acting up, none of the Apple apps seemed to be working for me. Tried reboots, tried most of the solutions in this thread. Nothing helped.

So, I did a Reinstall of the OS. Boot to Recovery (Command + R), select Reinstall. Takes about 45 minutes, but preserves all of your applications, files, and settings.

    Everything is working perfectly now.

I'm getting the same message in Terminal. Anybody have an idea what's going on with this?

I had a similar problem. Mail keeps freezing after update to Mavericks. It open fine, but keeps freezing after a few seconds.

10.9.1. Macbook pro 2009. icloud account.

I tried everything suggested, but this is what finally worked for me:

    Untag Keychain-sync in system preferences>icloud

    Hi there,

I have a specific problem in that mail only crashes when I enter a term in the search box e.g. looking for messages from a speciifc sender.  As soon as I click on the email address I want, mail crashes.  Has anyone had the same problem.  It is getting to be a pain as I cannot search my mail effectively

    Thanks in anticipation

This worked for me! And emails loaded very quickly.

    Thanks!

Yes, I'm having the same issue. As soon as I do a search, Apple Mail crashes. I'm not sure what has triggered it. I'm certain I've searched for email since the 10.9.1 update without problems - it is more recent.

    iMac-de-Leonardo:~ leonardoamoraleite$ defaults delete com.apple.mail ColorQuoterColorList

    2014-02-05 09:27:26.223 defaults[671:507]

    Domain (com.apple.mail) not found.

    Defaults have not been changed.

    iMac-de-Leonardo:~ leonardoamoraleite$

My mail program crash many times!

This happened after I installed Maverick too.

i got the solution, you have to disconect from icloud. uncheck all the services, mail, safari, keychain, etc...

than restart you mail app. and add an account under me.com , not mac.com , than check everything again in icloud and simple it works, appear a issue with the extension mac.com to me.com.

try i did it and it works....

    sorry for my english.

Okay, iCloud could be the point. But I use just an @icloud.com address. No me.com before, but I'll give it a try. Thank you.

I know. But that does not solve the problem. So I can not use my gmail account togehter with mail. Why does Apple not give an answer to over 35000 quenstions?

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
