I do not want to buy iWork or iLife just because the new update came out. How do I update to Pages 5.0 is I got it through Apple's old Box Set deal?

Unfortunately, you'd have to buy the applications again thru the App Store.
Looks like Apple has had a change of heart and now all iWork apps are showing the update regardless of where the apps were installed from.
Sign out of your Mac App Store account, quit the Mac App Store, relaunch it & then sign in. You should then see the iWork & iLife apps with an Update button.
Wait awhile before upgrading. Read what other who has upgraded what that liked about it. It seems that Pages 5 is stripped down to an iPad version.
Be careful upgrading to Pages 5.0 The new version WILL NOT open old copies of your documents made from Pages '09, and it corrupts the file so Pages'09 will not open them any more. I have not been able to repair the docs that this happened to.
This is the worst "upgrade" I have ever seen from Apple. To change a product so much that you can not open the previous version's docs, especially, without an "easy to understand warning of impending doom", is sheer stupidity.
I couldn't be more disappointed with this so called "upgrade".
Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5.
Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5 and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.
