I archived a file in the News Watcher program for my genealogy. I am the 5th Great Nephew, my 4th great grandfather's brother, Martin Harris. Whatever this News Watcher file is - is important to me - perhaps important to history - perhaps not. He was the first of 4 or 5 scribes writing dictated speech from the lips of Joseph Smith as he translated through an ancient device. His translations were from the golden plates plates, in a book of golden plates found in a stone box with a stone lid of considerable weight. A Urim (אוּרִים) and Thummim traditionally has been taken to derive from a root meaning lights; these derivations are reflected in the Neqqudot of the Masoretic Text. They were like eye glasses coming from a breast plate. The stones were held by bows coming from the breat plate. Thee were used at the time of Moses and at set was made by the earlier Mesopotamians escaping the language tragedy at the tower of Babel. That great brick tower constructed by first Emperor, Nimrod The Hunter (who wore the stolen Garments of Adam & Noah that God Made.) These gave the wearers great power and strength physically and spiritually. All from the Arch People and their decedents were made to live in his kingdom - Even my many great grandfathers Terah, The Prince of Hosts and his son Abraham (who live to be 198 years old. Moses lived to be 125.) - made to look like a normal large rounded stone. The box lid sealed the box lid well under it. There were stone slats below at the bottom of the box to keep the contents out of water possibly leaking up or down in the box, but being near the top of the hill probably insured most rain water would drain down the hill away from the box. The rounded stone was a little visible - protruding a bit above the ground on a hillside of the largest in the area. It was produced from Prophet-Kings of an ancient American civilization. King Darius left pure gold written pages in a stone box found in the 1900s in Mesopotamia in the Corner of the bottom of a wall of his Palace. We sent a space craft with writing on a golden plaque and golden record. Nations in the past and present have the wherewithal to make golden artifacts to contain very important information that needs to last forever. The stone box found in New York State in the 1820's contained a gold record that contained the condensing of the most spiritual experiences and historical descriptions of two civilizations - one that lived from 2200 B.C. to maybe 5-400 B.C and 600 B.C to 400 A.D. who were in the end - fighting a life and death war with an eqully powerfull enemies adjacent to them. These wars, according to the plates authors ended with almost the entire destruction of these civilizations about 2,517 and 1,617 hundred years ago respectavely. These record said the Americas were stated by God to be a place for God fearing people who would keep the commandments of Gog and when they started praying to statues and idols they would be destroyed and swept from these continents. This has happend twice and the belivers in the Golden record called The Book of Mormon belive it may happen a third time if people do not obey the 10 commandments in the Book of Mormon and Christ's other Commandments. A 10 Commandments stone was found in a desert place high on a New Mexico mountain and was translated in the 40's by a Harvard Professor as the 10 Commandments in an ancient Eastern Mediterranean text related to ancient Hebrew-Phonecian-Greek glyphs. The language glyps were first broken by The University of Edinburgh in Scotland in 1895. There have been instances of "White Indian tribes" in some areas of the Americas, but they do not fit in with the model of described in American published History so this information never filters into our general history books in the North and South Americas. These white Indians are told about by the Indians of Lovelock, Nevada with some cannibalistic white redheaded giant Indians that lived in a cave out of town. You can go to Lovelock yourself as I did and Indians working in town will tell you how to get there and you can go see the cave and the story printed there. These giant white natives had red hair and double rows of teeth. The Smithsonian has been dishonest and have destroyed these giant American white ancient American race skeletons as it interfered with white Protestant American belief systems and the Ivy League Professor historical narratives. The Book of Mormon translated from the golden plates (golden could be pure gold or gold looking metal, possibly a gold-copper blend known to have been made by ancient Indians in the Americas. A gold-copper alloy looks golden but it is lighter in weight and is still very durable to aging - the copper in the great lakes regions has been found in Europe from ancient times, so Phoenicians or even Greek, Roman or late Cleopatra-period Egyptian oar-sail ships could have brought in this 98% pure copper using transatlantic ships before the Dark Ages. We know King Salomon brought in the most expensive materials from great distances by ships to build the fabled Temple at Jerusalem. We know from the Atlantic Kon-Teki that even a reed boat of the Egyptians could easily cross the Atlantic Ocean in 2 months or about 60 days. I find it interesting that California Indians could cross mile wide rivers with reed boats similar to the Egyptians. Anyway Does anyone have a Mac with and older pre Mavericks OS with New Watcher that can translate this NW file for me?

I don't think you would need NW to read a file you saved. It should be readable with any text editor, including TextEdit. Even if in binary format there are apps to decode that.

Open transport was a technology used in Mac OS 9 days. I haven't use MT-NewsWatcher for years. I guess it was written as a Carbon based App when transiting from OS 9 to OS 10.X days and from what I know it stopped working in Mac OS 10.7 (Lion) since Rosetta was no longer supported. MT NewWatcher hasn't been updated in years. I think you'll be out of luck unless you can find a different app. Good Luck

The fact that this issue is not being discussed much at all in many of the venues and usenet groups dealing with Apple and OSX, shows just how little traction the problem is getting.

I'm convinced this won't be fixed in Mavericks, and for MT-Newswatcher there is little hope since the developer hasn't updated it in a very long time. In fact, I think it is abandoned.

Unfortunately for me, I haven't found any other usenet client for OSX that I really like. I can and will use Thunderbird, but I'm not gonna like it! 😟

While there is no free replacement for MT-Newswatcher, it appears that Thoth works fine in Mavericks. I got the trial today and am contemplating getting the paid versions ($25 via paypal).

Unfortunately for me and my lack of patience, I had already got and paid for Unison. 😟

That's not a knock on Unison BTW, it is a fine program and I very well may not change over to Thoth as I get used to Unison's way of doing things.

Thoth is excellent for downloading rar's, not so good for viewing images inline. In fact, I still haven't found a good way to use Thoth to view images inline. MT-News on the other hand was a snap, click on the file and bang! it opens up with no overhead or other crap on the screen to deal with. No hassles with 'thumbnails', cataloging or other bloatware.

MT-News was perfect for viewing binaries. Its only weakness was the 100,000 limit. Thoth (my setup anyway) has a 1,000,000 limit, much more useful.

Now. How to go about dumping Mav on my 2011 Mini and reloading MT Lion. Besides, I hate those stupid little 'tag' things that some nimrod put in there instead of labels. The same guy would probably mount a gas tank on the front bumper just to stand out in the design meeting.

Even if it's not the main purpose of this topic, i add that the fact of removing Open Transport from Mavericks has some effects on others soft too :

For Warcraft 3 TFT (topic here) for exemple, internet connexion is impossible since Mavericks upgrade.

Can apple developpers find any kind of solution for that kind of softs that still use this kind of connexion ?

Any patch ? Any app ? Or is there a technical incompatibility ?

I know there are many gamers in the case of War3 who are ready to go back to Leopard or Lion just to resolve this problem..

(sorry for my english - thx)

Only you can decide that, of course.

I got the newest version of Thoth just the other day to try, also got Unison. My problem now is that I like both of them for different reasons. So I bought both! 🙂

If you really liked MTNW, then moving to Thoth is the simplest move you can make as most everything about it is very similar in operation. Setting it up is a little more convoluted than MTNW, but not that daunting.

Unison is more OSXified and is a nice multi-pane program. It is quite powerful and works very well.

Frankly for text, both are great. For binary pictures I think that Unison might be a bit better, but I don't do binary usenet.

BTW, both have free trials. 30 days for Thoth from the developer, and a week (I think) for Unison. Get the free trials by doing a Google search.

Hope this helps.
