Airport drops network connection
Hello...
I have a powerbook G4 and a G5 tower and FINALLY got DSL. We don't have access to cable modems where I live (in the country). However, the network connection just dies from time to time...sometimes repeatedly, requiring that I unplug and then plug back in the Linksys wireless router.
I have spent so much time with Linksys support that I know most of them, their children's names, etc. LOL. We have changed settings repeatedly, MTU is now set at 1100, changed other settings, as well. Did a firmware update on the router, etc.
I have just purchased and installed a range expander thinking that it might be due to a weak signal. The signal strength improved and I've had fewer interruptions, but it did die twice last evening. The phone service says our signal from their site is good. The service is interrupted to all machines when it dies...not just the two wireless apples (an IBM pc which is ethernet connected to the router and two other IBMs, one a desktop, one a laptop). I'm trying to decide what to do...thinking of taking the router back and exhanging it for another of the same model, as it might be defective. Replaced the network cable from the modem to the router with a high quality cable to ensure it wasn't a problem with the cable. Will continue to monitor and scratch my head over this one.
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks,
Ken in Okla.
