Oct 30, 2013 6:41 PM in response to Nicholas Jamesby Nicholas James,Okay, that is a bit wierd (but perhaps it works).
The 'update' button does not appear if I put a tiered number on the Style. I have to select all of the paragraphs and put the numbers on seperately.

Oct 30, 2013 6:48 PM in response to Nicholas Jamesby Nicholas James,Okay, starting over.
So the Heading and the Numbers are not tied together (perhaps a good thing after being trapped in Microsoft nightmares).
If a number scheme is updated, get the update under numbers. Press that and all the numbers update for that level. So that is nice.
Just can't figure out how to keep the format right for the numbers easily.

Oct 31, 2013 11:43 AM in response to Nicholas Jamesby mfergu01,These are all interesting points about making outlines. However, it doesn't change the fact that the outline feature is gone--the ability to look at an outline level-by-level. This is essential for writing manuscripts that have outlines stretching across several pages. That's the difficulty that I have with the Pages ungrade (or sadly, downgrade...).

Nov 6, 2013 10:29 AM in response to mfergu01by jrharris2,I have to agree with mfergu01. The loss of outline view is a major downgrade. I'll add my voice to those who would like to see that returned as soon as possible.

Nov 6, 2013 10:57 AM in response to jrharris2by PeterBreis0807,Apple has not mentioned this in their update note, so it is not in "the next few releases".
If at all.

I'm disappointment for exactly the same reason. Does any one know of a good outline processor?
Yeah. Pages 4.3 is still in an iWork folder within your Application folder, and it still works.

Looks like it came online today. Must be why the <click here> link to provide feedback on that page is broken.

Nov 6, 2013 4:09 PM in response to mfergu01by Nicholas James,Thank you. I agree with you. I am new to Pages so I was trying to fond the best available option.
Not particularly happy with it's features or that buy. I was looking for a good program that would be compatible with my iPad. I managed to wrangle one document out of it, but I will probably stick with using open office on the iMac!

Nov 11, 2013 3:08 PM in response to Nicholas Jamesby shieladixon,I'm feeling disappointed as I've just bought Pages (my only option seemed to be version 5 for 10.9+) and outlining was a feature I was keen to use.
before I bought I read "Organize your thoughts with a tiered outline" which is still visible now at https://www.apple.com/mac/pages/
Does that statement refer to Nicholas' procedure involving a numbered list in conjunction with heading styles?

Nov 11, 2013 3:16 PM in response to shieladixonby Mark Lyon1,Shieladixon:
Yes, the URL does reefer to Nicholas' procedure. It's not as slick as the outline view that is in Pages 4.3 but it's workable. All depends on how finicky you are about outlines.
Now, apart from the lack of ourlining, I find the new Pages quite acceptable.
If you really need outlining and are willing to invest the learning time, I recommend Omni Outliner. Otherwise, search around for a download site for Pages 4.3.

Nov 11, 2013 3:16 PM in response to shieladixonby PeterBreis0807,That is just lists.
It is not true outlining which allows you to promote, demote, fold down and move sections of your text by dragging and dropping.
This is just another of the long list of removed features that were in Pages '09.
Register your dissapointment by reviewing/rating Pages 5 in the App Store.
Depending how long you have had it you may also ask Apple to refund your money.
