cant connect to wireless with security

Hi,

I have a G4 running 10.4.11 and can connect to my netgear VMDG280 with security disabled, but no matter which type of security I select on the router settings, the password is not recognised, or there is an "error trying to join network".

Hair is being torn out.

I've had it working at a previous address with a different router, but since moving I can't get it to work without disabling the security, which is not a long term option.

Has anybody any ideas on what to do?

I've tried putting the password in "" marks for WPA to no avail, when I choose WEP in the router settings, it forces use of a key, but when I try to log on with the mac in airport, network or internet connect, I am not presented with a box to type the key in!

Any help will be greatly appreciated as I'm sure half the neighbourhood is on the open network by now... 😟

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

10.4 instructions...

Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.

If using Wifi/Airport...

Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
