Oct 24, 2013 9:31 AM in response to jbNcoby D.E. Emery,If you go into Safari Prefs, select security, and then select manage website settings. Select Java from the left side and then change "when visiting other websites" to run in unsafe mode,
Interesting, but this doesn't explain/handle iOS devices trying to set up a VPN connection.

Oct 24, 2013 9:47 AM in response to mnsaintby mnsaint,Here's my latest:
1. I wiped out my HD and reinstalled Mavericks (using Recovery mode - Command-R).
2. Instead of immediately restoring my stuff from Time Machine, I went through the Setup Assistant like a brand new user.
3. Once in, I set up my work VPN and it worked just fine. For me, that proves it's something that's coming over from my Time Machine backups which I suspected.
4. I'm now migrating everything back in except my Network Settings.
5. It's going to take about 3 hours for the migration to complete.
6. After that, I'll see what happens. I'm guessing since I chose not to bring in my Network settings, my VPN will still be configured from step #3 above.
7. I wonder if it'll still work...
The suspense is killing me already.

Oct 24, 2013 10:31 AM in response to mnsaintby 42Iain,Not Mavericks Server but Mavericks on my Mac Laptop. After install I could get a VPN connection but would not pass any traffic to the network. I installed Java 7 update 45 and now I can connect via VPN and route traffic to the appropriate networks. It works with the Watchguard VPN client and manual VPN methed.

Oct 24, 2013 12:37 PM in response to mnsaintby dmbono,My problem turned out to not be VPN related but SMB2 related. Couldn't access password protected network shares. The very easy resolution is here: http://cammodude.blogspot.com/2013/10/os-x-109-mavericks-workaround-for-smb.html
Not going to be a fix for everyone but hopefully some of you can rest easy now.

Oct 24, 2013 1:11 PM in response to kellentatby brianfromround lake,I'm have the same issues but I was able to get PPTP to work and this does appear to be a NAT issue. However, the NAT issue is sort of on the clients end and not the servers side. At work I'm on a 10.0.10.x network and I'm not able to connect from multiple systems. When I disconnect my iPad from the WiFi and go over the cell network with a routable address I can connect. I can also connect from my laptop when I have personal hotspot enabled on my iPad.
In both instances my IP address is 76.x.x.x but If I use a MiFi where my IP address is 192.x.x.x I'm not able to connect. I'm guessing that the server is seeing the internal IP address (10.0.10.x or 192.x.x.x) and is trying to route the return replies to that address instead of the NAT IP of the client (76.x.x.x when using my iPad's cell connection).
I'm going to call Apple and give them the information I have found to hopefully speed up the fix.

Oct 24, 2013 2:55 PM in response to mnsaintby mnsaint,Update:
Well, after migrating all of my Time Machine accounts and files back over, VPN is broken again. Obviously, there's something that I've got in my account (and/or previous files) that breaks it. Just to recap, it worked after the clean install and setting up a brand new user. Once I ran Migration Assistant and brought over my account, it's now stopped working.
I tried changing the setting in Safari as mentioned above but no luck.
I'm not sure what to try next.

Was eagerly awaiting your reply regarding your attempts at migration minus the network settings.
Its got to be bringing something over from the old Server App.
Looks like the only way around is a manual migration aka PITA!
Having tried all minus your attempt above, I'm holding off for an update. Our private VPN is more important than 10.9 for the moment.
It is encouraging that a fresh install at least has a chance of working.

Oct 24, 2013 4:12 PM in response to mnsaintby mnsaint,Just to make things clear - I'm not working on a server. All of my problems are on the client side of things. Just a simple iMac running Mavericks with no Server software involved.
Unfortunately, it's my home computer that I use on a daily basis to access my work Intranet.
You're still right, though. There's something that's coming back over that's hosing it. I guess I never mentioned this (and maybe it was pretty evident) but this is with the native VPN in Mavericks. I'm not using any third-party software.
It's the same computer (and the same VPN settings) I've used since Lion. It worked fine when I upgraded to Mt. Lion but Mavericks has been a different story!

Oct 24, 2013 6:56 PM in response to brianfromround lakeby sfgate, similar findings. now on local network, setting VPN address to the local server IP works (L2TP), changing it back to example.com breaks it, although I can connect to example.com over VNC, AFP, etc.
