Mavericks Keychain keeps asking to unlock "Local Items" after install

Today I Updated my iMac from Mountain Lion to Mavericks.

After Installing the first boot went smooth but the mac after booting asked me to reboot again.

On the second Restart when the login window appeared also apeared a Password input window asking me to enter the password for several "LOCAL ITEMS" in the keychain but when I type my administrator password it won't work.

I hit the ESC key and the window appears several times asking for different password for several items that need access to "Local Items" in the keychain.

I tried opening the KeyChain and running the KeyChain firstaid but it didn't work.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

I solved this issue by doing the following steps:

1.- Opening KeyChain app

2.- Locking the Keychain by clicking the lock on the top left corner.

3. -Unlocking the Keychain, as soon as I typed my Admin Passoword it asked me to "Reset my iCloud KeyChain" I clicked yes because I didn't have setup my icloud keychain yet.

4.- Restart computer.

After performing this steps the computer restarted flawlessly and without asking for the "Local Items" password.

Thank you, this fixed it:

If everything from the above fails for whatever reason the last resort you can do the following:

  1. Open terminal
  2. cd ~/Library/Keychains
  3. ls
    1. When you 'ls' here you will see a folder that contains a bunch of random number liks so:
    2. 94ED610F-DD96-4ECF-A2BC-7D2F8651A464 (this number is unique on each system)
  4. rm -rf 94ED610F-DD96-4ECF-A2BC-7D2F8651A464
  5. Reboot
  6. <when you log back in everything should be back to normal>

My solution to the "Local Items" Keychain Access password request for ____ accounts.

1. Open Finder

2. Click Go on Menu Bar

3. Click "Go To Folder"

4. Search ~/Libary/Keychains

5. Move the blue folder labeled 00000000-0000-0000-000000000000 to your desktop (or whatever it might be on your computer, different letters and numbers for each computer)

6. Restart your computer

7. Move the folder from your desktop to trash and delete

8. To check that this solved your problem, go to Finder --> Go (menu bar) --> Utilities --> Keychain Access... now your Local Items folder should be unlocked

This worked for me hopefully it works for you too!

The irony here is that deleting keychains OR moving keychains to the desktop OR rm -R ~/Library/Keychains/random-number are all doing the same thing - forcing the reset of either the login keychain or Local Items, depending on what you are actually deleting/moving/resetting. Shellcode, Pacote-sans, Mario Meraz, srons: you guys are all pretty much finding different ways of doing the same thing.

Local Items is what is created in Mavericks when iCloud Keychain is *not* enabled. See the following threads as well, which echo what several of you here are saying about deleting that long-numerical-keychain item:
