Mavericks, Windows 8.1 and iMac Bluetooth Keyboard Issue

Just upgraded my iMac (Late 2012) to OS X 10.9 (13A603). I downloaded the Windows 8.1 ISO from Microsoft's DreamSpark program and I attempted to use Bootcamp to do a fresh install. Everything goes smoothly up to the point where the Windows 8.1 installer has restarted the computer and its ready to be "personalized" (see this image for the screen I'm talking about). Once I get to this screen, my Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and/or Magic Mouse is no longer recognized by the installer and I can't proceed.

Keep in mind that on the first reboot into the Windows 8.1 installer, my keyboard and mouse work perfectly (this is how I selected the language settings, entered the 8.1 serial, formatted the Bootcamp partition, etc). Anyone have any idea on how I can go about fixing this issue?

I've just encountered the identical issue on my 2012 iMac running Mavericks. Only difference is that I'm installing Windows 8 (not 8.1). But both the keyboard and mouse (and trackpad) have stopped functioning at the "personalization" screen.

Very annoying/frustrating; hope someone has a work-around?

I gave up on Boot Camp and installed VMWare Fusion 6 (already had a license for it). In the past I'd always installed Windows via Boot Camp first, then linked to Fusion; this time I used Fusion to install Windows 8 -- worked without problems (except it was darned slow and Windows 8 needed 63 updates before I could install Windows 8.1!).

In any event, I now have Windows 8.1 running fine in Fusion 6 on Mavericks (on a 2012 iMac).

I never really used the Boot Camp installation anyway; much easier to use Fusion, where I can move back and forth between systems at will.

So this isn't really a solution per say, but I figured the problem behind it getting stuck on that "personalized" screen had something to do with the Bluetooth driver. So I dug up an old USB keyboard/mouse, plugged it in and was able to complete the setup process. Once the setup was complete I ran the Bootcamp driver installer, rebooted and paired my Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Magic Mouse without any issues.

I guess there is some sort of a bug in Bootcamp bundled with Mavericks (Version 5.1.0, Build 473).

I had the exact same issue. First, make sure to use the latest bootcamp drivers for your system. Mine was 5.0.5033. You'll need a wired keyboard and mouse to complete the installation. With Windows 8.1 and the latest bootcamp drivers loaded on the windows side, I went back to the Mac OS, and disconnected both the wireless mouse and keboard using the blutooth settings, then clicked the minus sign next to each to delete the pairings to the Mac OS. Then using the wired mouse and keyboard, I went to system settings, then changed the startup disk to bootcamp. I then restarted the machine and it came up in Windows. i used the wired mouse and keyboard to log in. One there, I was able to pair both the mouse and keyboard. The keyboard paired on the first attempt, and Windows gave me a code to enter. The mouse took a few tries and eventually paired. After I got both working in windows, then I went back into Mac OSX, and it took a few minutes but both devices automatically re-paired to the Mac OS, and now both work in both systems.

The reason why they wouldn't be recognized is because of the disk/usb you used. That contains the support divers for the Apple Magic Mouse and Apple Wireless Keyboard. Since you booted into the drive that you installed earlier, which DOESN'T contain the support drivers, they can't be used until you finish setup. So I guess they need to add a note that you may be a wired keyboard and mouse to finish setup. 😝 (or the bootcamp partition had the support drivers, before you formatted it but you HAD to format it so don't go thinking you're not supposed to.)
