Is Mavericks making your machine run slow?

Is it still indexing spotlight?

Could be third party incompatibilities. Any system "enhancements" installed.

Same for me. I have an MacBook Pro 2.53 ghz intel core 2 duo, 4GB Ddr3.

After installing mavericks everything is moving slow. Safari won't open, I have to force quit several times before it works, mail also ...and every click is just taking time. I hope there is a solution if not I have to go back to lion...hope is possible. Please let me know if you solved your Mac problems

My iMac started running slower than normal with the 10.8.5 update. Installed Mavericks today and it seems slower, to me as well. I'm running a mid-2007 Intel iMac 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM, 320 GB HD.

I know one day I will upgrade the hardware, in the meantime I shouldn't experience this kind of slowness.

It also periodically stops recognizing my Harman Kardon USB speaker system, even though I set it in the Preferences. I have to unplug the USB and then re-insert the cable. My Cubase 7 doesn't recognize the speakers under Mavericks. Everything was working fine under Mountain Lion, except the slowness at times starting up apps.

I think Mavericks killed my computer. :-)

For every main OS upgrades (ie. ..., 10.7, 10.8, 10.9. ...), you should do a clean-install so your machine can run like a newly-bought machine beacuse there are an old system caches stored on your machine from the previous version.

PS. I'm downloading it for my MacBook Aluminum Unibody (late 2008) with 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB DDR3 RAM and 160 GB HDD. I will post my result after the installation is fiinshed.

Mavericks seems to be very very disk intensive upon first startup, let it run for a while, then evaluate it.

MDS/Spotlight seems to run at the max when first booting. Just be paitient and wait for it to finish.

Now, I am +30 minutes running, everything has settled so now to start testing it.

It will be a royal pain to have to do it, since I have a TON of applications installed. But you may be right about the clean install. Probably about a day or two's worth of work ahead of me if I do the clean install. Never had problems with previous generations of OS X upgrading - Except when they dropped Rosetta in Mountain Lion or was it Lion? and some of my apps no longer loaded. :-(

Doesn't Mavericks looks to see if you have a previous version of OS X installed??

Okay, here you go.

I, finally, installed OS X Mavericks successully after facing the Mac App Store error. First, I used 'Upgrade' method to test the performance. My Mac runs smoothly and faster. No problem appears and everything works fine. I will do a clean-install now and post a result again as if it would run better.

I was referring to anything that added a startup item, status menu, launch daemon, or kernel extension. Essentially, anything you had to use an installer to install.

Any of that kind of stuff can cause issues. However, if it worked in Mountain Lion, it will likely work fine in Mavericks.
