Q: Is Mavericks making your machine run slow?

I downloaded Mavericks this afternoon and installed it on my iMac i7 24GB RAM Everything seems to be slow in transitions from one app to another and many apps stall for severeal minutes as if the processor is playing catch-up. Thoughts? Should I just reinstall the update?

They could name all future OSX releases after Primates. Apple Gorilla sounds awesome. Apple Baboon I would stay away from though

Lol, that's hilarious. We should leave Mr. Cook suggestions. If he doesn't like it we could always go into business together. You even rename your phone Anthropoid....

I suppose that depends on where the OP comes from and their grasp on the English language (not all Apple users come from English speaking countries) Are you here for help or to correct someones English? Despite the topic's title not meeting with your approval, the OP has solved their issue and most likely moved on and will not see your correction.

    But thanks for your vigilance.

Sounds like you have computer issues. Try starting a new discussion and trying to resolve it instead of posting riddles here in a solved thread.

Hi, I'm a totally new iMac user , and after reading about Mavericks I find this really scary .

First, since you say you have had issues for some time, I strongly recommend you fix those before upgrading to Mavericks. Your iMac should not be behaving that way and an upgrade will almost certainly fix that, so get that taken care of and in all probability Mavericks will work even better for you.

I see you have not yet taken the advise of others yet, so I'll just echo that you won't get that taken care of here. If your iMac is still under warrantee, then get some help from an Apple "Genius". If you want our help then go to either the iMac or Mountain Lion Forum and ask your question, completely describing your iMac (year, model, how much RAM and free hard drive space you have). Then tell us in detail what issues you are observing when you use it. You might even download, run and post the results of EtreCheck which is designed by one of your fellow users to tell us about your setup.

Nice one Petermac , thank you for making me laugh . I will certainly take your advice , and drop into a local UK store , before going Maverick , hope they don't charge (even though it's apple insured ).

And see if they are helpful and chimp in. .lol .

    Thank you all . .

Ummmm, it was my idea, based on a typo. Do I get no credit?! Interesting debate on intellectual property coming on , I feel. The OP really must be rather confused, by now.

We will argue that out in court after the release of OSX Spider Monkey.

Fair enough, sir. Now that would be confusing: an arachnid primate.Thank goodness we don't have to litigate for Mavericks, or other characters from the Wild West, because I'd have to bring along my old pal, Mel Gibson, as a star witness.

What's next for Apple OS's? Earp? Holliday? Bean?!!

Although it's easy to check on the source for the name Mavericks, I'll save you the time. It's named for a notoriously difficult surfing location in northern California. And its name originated from a surfer's dog - named Maverick. Thus, it was Maverick's (possesive) beach. Since it's a geographicsl location, the apostrophe is dropped and you have Mavericks.

If you have a new install of Mavericks, you'll now understand why the default desktop wallpaper is an enormous wave.

Yes it was widely mentioned before it's release and may be the start of a run of Californian Landmark named OSXs.

    Cheers
