Oct 23, 2013 2:01 AM in response to richfromutby Kparker76,I had the same problem. i fixed it.
What do you need? Windows... of all things.
I have a bootcamp of Windows on my machine for times when I want to play video games that are only Windows based. I noticed that even tho I was stuck in this perptual loop and unable to get back to what I had... Bootcamp into Windows still functioned perfectly well.
My friend found a link: http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/standard
It was Mac Drive 9. I installed it on Windows. Launched it after a reboot. It allowed me into the mac partition from inside of Windows. I went into the Applications folder, renamed the folder called "Install OS X Mavericks.app" to "Install OS X Mavericks.app v2" and then another one in the main directory. I can't recall the name of it, but I basically looked for the two folders that had to do with the install. One was in the main area and the other was in applications. I renamed them and then had Mac Drive 9 repair.
The repair took 1.5 hours or so... and several times I was sure it stalled, but I let it keep running. It finished. I rebooted... held the option key down to see the partitions and Macintosh HD was back.
It worked!

Oct 23, 2013 5:35 AM in response to Kparker76by Peter Moyer,I reset the PRAM. Command+Option+ P+R while rebooting. Afterwards I was able to do a restore from Time Machine via the Internet restore option. Might be worth a try.

Oct 23, 2013 11:30 PM in response to creativenatureby Keith Tomlinson1,Sadly and annoyingly this does not work for me. I get two options of the OSX Install and Startup disk (my hard drive) but this just gets me into a different screen with disk utility and the option to reinstall.
When I come out of this I back into the OSX loop. Am I doing something wrong?
How did you manage to get back to your hard drive and then back into your system?

Oct 24, 2013 7:36 AM in response to Franciscoccby zoomie,Shut down the computer...strart it up and hold down the command + R key till you see a new screen appraers with your "old OD" and then re install it. You will not loose anything......
That what I had to do and will now just
stick mountain lion OS for now........ -
Oct 24, 2013 7:40 AM in response to henkjan33by Stuka87,Do you, or others having this issue, happen to have Fusion drives?
Looking more into my issue, both drives's (SSD and HDD) are fine which checked by themselves. However, the part of the partition map that joins the two into one drive is damaged.
I sincerely believe there is some issue with the installer, that does not happen often, and may only affect Fusion Drives.

Oct 24, 2013 7:41 AM in response to daniel_oltonby PST MD,Solved my problem by reformatting the hard drive and performing a clean install of mavericks. Then I migrated by mountian lion backup to mavericks. It took several hours longer than I expected but otherwise I'm satisfied.

Oct 24, 2013 7:50 AM in response to PST MDby zoomie,Hi, would you mind posting a step by step of the process you used? i.e can you access the inetrnet to download Mavericks after re-formatting? After the installing the OS, how did you restore your software apps and files from the external back up drive? I may to go this route.....
thanks.
