Mavericks Finder - how default to "double click opens new window"?

I am old and set in my ways. I like having the Finder open a new window when I double click a folder. Since 1984 I've arranged Finder windows in positions and sizes that suit me and I have never seen any reason to change.

In Mavericks however there does not seem to be a way to default to, "double click opens new Finder window". My choices under Finder preferences are, open in the same window; or open in a tab. I don't care for either.

Does anyone know of a way to restore the traditional Finder behavior in Mavericks? Thanks in advance.

Why? Or are you trying to find private details of my company? If you are then please mind your own business, as I was not even replying to your trolling post, but someone else with a genuine enquiry.

Cheers

No Pete I do not have a comprehension problem as something that has not been explained cannot be comprehended.

I was asking a legitimate question about a comment you made. That being "Mavericks and iOS 7 have improved our business workflow vastly."
As I have found exactly the opposite I'm genuinely curious to know about the experience of others & I'm pretty sure you can explain without divulging any trade secrets.

Replying to what trolling post pray tell?

And my apologies, I didn't realise this was your private thread, I was under the apparently mistaken impression that these forums were for swapping advice and hints.

Perhaps you may like to have a refresher read here especially sections 2.1, 2.2 & 2.3

Dear Adam,

I am sure many Mac-users agree with you! Many have problems with Maverick's Finder. Why else would this topic score so many views? I am going to buy a new MacBook Pro soon and, like many others, I am thinking about installing, NOT Mavericks because of it's terrible counterproductive Finder, but Mountain Lion on it.

I doubt that!

You are the one asking the questions.

Correct.

You made a statement about productivity gains in a thread that is full of comments about just the opposite so I, and no doubt others, am keen to gain from your wisdom & experience.

I too am a business user & I have not found any business workflow improvements. Just the opposite.

Asking questions of more knowledgeable users and sharing useful information is what these forums are supposed to be about isn't it Pete?

C'mon Pete, don't be shy, share your knowledge, that's what these forums are for & I've even asked nicely.

As you've pointed out I'm obviously stupid & incapable of working such things out for myself.

I mean, you're always so helpful telling folks to remember the terms of use & to stay on-topic & to leave the thread.

Here I am asking you a legitimate on-topic question, seeking a helpful answer & you're not letting on.

That's hardly fair is it?

This thread has ceased to be helpful, due to the unpleasantness of a single poster. I have reported this person for violating the rules of this site, and suggest that others do as well if they feel that this poster is acting in a demeaning manner to them and their posts. Just click the "Report Post" button at the bottom of each post to do so.

This site should be open to all. It does not belong to anyone, especially someone who seems intent of running up a post count by replying with the same "advice" ad infinitum. I, and others, have asked him to cease acting as if he controls this thread. For our trouble we have been dismissed by him as being, in some way, unable to comprehend his points, often rudely. Every time I get a notification that there are new posts here, all I read is unpleasant back-and-forth between him and someone seeking help. That is not what this forum is about. The latest (above) was the last straw for me. A person asked a reasonable question about how workflow has been improved and got a major load of snark in return.

If enough people use the Report Post button, perhaps this thread will again be helpful. Until that time, I fear it will not.

And, again, you act as if you are the mod in charge of this thread. I am not "flaming" the topic. I have asked nothing of you (here. Previously, I asked you to tone down your posts). I am being quite specific. I have no desire to get into yet another discussion with you, as you only have two things to say: get off the thread because you are off topic, or report your concerns to Apple. So, instead, I have gone through the past 15-20 pages, picked out the posts in which you were rude/demeaning/intemperate to posters, and reported those posts with the explanation about you given above. You can give all of the help you want (and some of your posts HAVE been helpful), but the majority of your posts come across in a bullying manner. Read the responses from others to your posts and you will see this is not just my opinion.

I would suggest to others, who feel as though they have been flamed (to use his term) by petermac87, to report the specific posts in which he has seemed to personally attack you. Adam, you are merely the latest, and his response to you was the one that finally pushed me to start reporting inappropriate postings. I found at leat 6-8 posts going back about 15 pages where petermac87 used inappropriate language, told people to leave the thread, or otherwise acted as if he, and he alone, was in charge of this thread. The only way to stop this behavior is by filing reports when you feel that he is acting in an inappropriate manner towards you or others. Apple mods will then have a choice as to ignore the reports, issue a warning, or take other action(s). In the meantime, anyone who posts here is at risk of having their intelligence demeaned or of being ordered to get off the thread.

Yes, and if Amazon don't have the book I want I can always drive 25 miles to a bookshop - but that isn't very convenient either. It's a loss of functionality on a very basic part of the operating system which requires re-learning a frequently-used procedure that for many of us is so ingrained as to be unconscious, with another procedure that is less convenient (needs both hands) for no gain whatever.
