Oct 22, 2013 7:42 PM in response to William Boyd, Jr.by ojrmusem,Bill, I've got Disk Utility opened, but what am I trying to verify? The OS X Mavericks.app or my MacIntosh HD? Sorry, I'm a relatively new user. Thanks for the quick response.

You want to verify the volume where you want to install Mavericks, which is probably Macintosh HD.

Oct 22, 2013 8:27 PM in response to William Boyd, Jr.by ojrmusem,Thanks Bill. I started the verify a few minutes after you sent this message and it is still running. I don't like it though as I can't see what it is actually doing. How can I verify that it's running?

Oct 22, 2013 11:32 PM in response to ojrmusemby erlichg,I encountered the same thing and finally figured out that the 10.8.5 update was "waiting in the queue" so to speak.
After a restart (which installed the 10.8.5 update), the mavericks installer got past the prepare error.

Oct 23, 2013 2:13 AM in response to erlichgby ojrmusem,Thanks erlichg. I checked my computer and see that I do have the 10.8.5 update already, but I still encounter the same problem. Looks like the problem starts when the computer counts down and the ESD dmg folder opens and after a moment the folder closes and I receive the error message. Not sure what is going on.

Oct 23, 2013 3:11 AM in response to ojrmusemby ChrisRR,I'm getting the exact same thing. I have tried every whichway using the installer on the same drive, a connected drive and placing the installer in different parts of the computer - Applications, desktop etc - no luck.

Oct 23, 2013 3:19 AM in response to ChrisRRby ojrmusem,ChrisRR, thanks for the corroboration. It's driving me nutz...LOL. However, it successfully installed on my 2012 MBP without any hiccups. Maybe someone will find the solution. Thanks for the input. Let us know if/when you successfully update your system.
Cheers!

Oct 23, 2013 11:29 AM in response to ojrmusemby ChrisRR,No worries. I'm no further on. I have this issue each time I upgrade, but I am normally able to get round it by putting the installer on a connected drive and installing the upgrade on the drive it's connected to. You might want to try that (on your own head be it) but it's not working for me this time.
I'll keep you posted in case I have a breakthrough - or a breakdown! ;-)

Oct 23, 2013 9:44 PM in response to ChrisRRby EddieT,Having the same problem on a 2008 iMac. Was downloading, then just quit. Went back and tried to download Mavericks update again and again. Cancelled download, trashed old partially downloaded Mavericks, ran Disk Utillity, ran OnyX. Restarted many times. Just cannot get the thing updated.

Oct 25, 2013 12:02 AM in response to ojrmusemby DaRite1,I had the same issue until I simply restarted my Mac. So that is what worked for me. But I did read about more complex issues causing this error, as each situation is different.
