White noise on external Focusrite soundcard

Any clues as to when could we get a Focusrite audio drivers update? I have a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB external soundcard which worked perfectly fine until I updated to Mavericks. Now I'm just getting white noise, so I assume it's a driver issue with the new OS.

HELP!!!!

Sadly it doesn't look like it's supported at the moment. I had the exact same thing last year with the launch of Mountain Lion - I upgraded prematurely and it knocked out my Saffire 6.

I've held off on Mavericks so far because I'm certain mine is the USB1.1 version, not the USB2 version, (which apparently has worked without problem on Mavericks so far for them), so won't work. And since recording is business critical to me, I will either need to wait it out or change my interface.

I'm a bit fed up with Focusrite, as great as their products are, because they seem to be quite lax when it comes to updating software and drivers etc.

I'm now tempted to move over to Apogee as they seem far more on the ball, and have drivers and software updates already available for pretty much every interface they sell.

I have a Saffire 6 (USB 1.0 - unlucky draw!) bought on Amazon in November 2011.

So, that's two years of service, and now my options are:

1. Throw it away

2. Lie to someone and trick them into buying it - If it's a PC owner I'd have to lie about the root hub issue to sell this thing.

3. Pray that someone who works for Focusrite takes pity on those of us that are stranded with the USB 1.0 version.

I had hoped to get more than two years of use out of my Saffire 6.

I have another Focusrite product, and I went back and forth with Focusrite tech support with it for months, trying to get their drivers to work. They really tried, sent me beta versions of drivers. What I found was that if I uninstalled all the Focusrite software and drivers, my Mac could use the interface just fine without any of their software. I'd try that before you sell it.

I'm glad I found this discussion board. I just upgraded to Mavericks and knew that there would be an issue. The exact same thing happened when I upgraded to Mountain Lion a couple years ago and Focusrite was very helpful through the entire process. Just check their "compatibility" website every-so-often and they'll release a patch that will allow for compatability with Mavericks in the near future. Until then, we're all SOL. It's unfortunate but all that can be done is to wait until that patch is developed.

Hi Guys, here’s some more information regarding Mavericks compatibility:

We're working on making all our mac-compatible products compatible with OS X 10.9 (Mavericks). Where the solution requires working with Apple or another 3rd party, which is mostly the case, we are unable to provide a time line to compatibility. Where we can provide a solution independently, we will provide a time frame. We are working on Mavericks compatibility now, and have been for some time.

We have recently realigned our priorities in terms of available resources, and are creating additional resources to ensure smooth operation with new OS releases for all our OS-dependent products . This is now our top priority, ahead of new product development and all other development requirements. We apologise for the inconvenience and stress that not providing a solution sooner has caused. Our goal now is to deliver a zero time gap for compatibility with new OS releases.

Please do get in touch with our support team if we can help you with anything further.

I've got a Saffire 6 USB 1.1 and had a similar issue - no sound from it after the Mavericks upgrade. I saw a post on the Focusrite help twitter feed advising an S6 USB 2.0 user to try downloading the Class Compliant mode app from Focusrite's US website (link here - the link mentions Scarlett, but the original query was about Saffire). I tried it myself and got my sound back - at least for the moment until there's an 'official' fix.

I obviously can't guarantee it's going to work for everyone so you'll need to proceed with caution, but it seemed to work with my fairly basic set up (2013 2.9GHz Intel iMac; Saffire 6 USB 1.1; Logic Pro 9).

Thanks. But I get a "page not found" message when following that link.

From what I gather an USB device being "class compliant" means that it should at least partially work - have "basic functionality", on any OS, without a driver installed. Like most webcams for example.

Apparently the Saffire 6 USB 1.1 is not "class compliant" which seems to be part of the reason why there is no driver for it yet. I'm surprised that a "Class Compliant mode app" made it work for you, unless that app is somehow able to fake how the Saffire 6 is detected by the OS.

If this is how Focusrite is making our non-class compliant devices work with Mavericks, say hello to increased latency I guess.

I'm mad at myself for not having seen this coming, hardware doesn't just drop drastically in retail price or gets silently updated to "USB 2.0" for no reason. The Saffire 6 USB 1.1 is obvously obsolete and no longer supported by Focusrite.

I found the class compliant mode app. It looks like a simple script that uninstalls the USB 2.0 driver for the Scarlett, in other words it doesn't do anything if you have a Saffire 6 USB 1.1.

It makes no sense at all that the "class compliant app" worked for you. And if you really have a Saffire 6 USB 1.1 you shouldn't even have that driver installed in the first place.

Unless there's a different "class compliant mode app" out there of course. Care to upload the one you have somewhere?

Focusrite released a beta driver for USB 1.1 devices on Mavericks today:

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me (Saffire 6 USB 1.1) I'm still getting the digital cricket chirping sound.
