I gather that was rhetorical, because we all agree with you.

But Apple is such a self centred beast that even this tiny concession is quite amazing.

We are still all in limbo because we have no idea where apple is going with this.

Keep using Pages '09 and give Pages 5 a one star rating in the App Store whilst warning everyone else off.

Apple's unusual publication today of a roadmap to restore functionality to Pages was a good first step. But the program will still need to reacquire a way to edit longer documents. At a minimum the immediate roadmap must include restoring at least basic bookmarking so one can edit documents of more than a few pages - a seemingly simple, logical undertaking since Apple has actually been adding bookmarking to many other applications and Google has elaborate online support for it in Docs.

And Apple still needs to disclose how long, at a minimum, it will support iWork '09 so that serious and professional users can make an informed decision how to manage their document libraries, etc., going forward.

that is a fantastic point to make on the Feedback page.

And I'm going to do so. Hope you will, too.

Manage pages and sections is an absolute must. Without that function Pages would be worthless. But were is mail merge and import of contacts? Lacking of these feature are the most important issues for me.

Unusual for Apple? Really?

Lets see - MobileMe/iWeb... gone

How many of us have been Mac users long enough to remember "Claris Works", which became Apple Works - and was a rather comprehensive suite of applications that rivaled Microsoft in most areas (if I could use it today, I probably would, as it was 10X more software than this newest iWork, and arguably a better set of apps than iWork 2009!

But Apple killed that off too...

Then we get Pages/Numbers/Keynote - with Pages taking a bit of time to finally be usable (2009). Numbers (2009) is ok (but then again, how hard can a workable spreadsheet app be in the scope of things?), and Keynote is a worthy replacement for PowerPoint (for most people). I didn't even mind there being a bit of a price tag on these apps to offset the cost of development.

We are being reminded how "Free" isn't free. Over the last couple of years, I had finally managed to migrate 95+% of my work over to iWork, growing every closer to shutting the door on MS on my Macs... and now this. What other options are there? OpenOffice derrivatives? Still rather kludge-like and not really functional for me - and certainly doesn't work with my existing library of Pages/iWork documents.

Tim Cook - you are making some serious mistakes... Apple is sliding some in the"innovator" category, while trying to out-Google, Google (free stuff that isn't really free). I do NOT like the direction this is going. And we don't have a Steve Jobs to come bail Apple out again.
