Regarding who’s helping who . . .

Robo: Level 2 (290 points)

Peter: Level 7 (21,435 points)

So I know who I’d run to for support.

And by the way –

Peter, thanks so much for all the effort you’ve put in for all of us grossly disappointed Pages users. I could only ever only begin to imagine how much unpaid time it must have taken.

Cosmo, a tip of the hat to you, 'cos I'm still laughing. 😁

Well, I understand - some people love abuse. Conspiracy theories and FUD can be warm and soothing.

You don't run to someone for support on these forums. It comes to you. And that just depends on who has the time, not just the knowledge. Peter acts like he knows everything, and some people believe him because he's so loud.

Unfortunately the OP was the one who got the thread off track from very early on. He's extremely emotional and angry, with little self control. I'm not sure why he feels the need to spread FUD, but that's why I'm here. I'll stick around until he calms down.

@mayavirupa: Well you remind us of an important point. The name of this thread is Pages 5 Features Checklist, not Predictions of Apple's philosophies and Strategies for Future Software Updates. Nor is it How I feel About Apple. If this thread was simply limited to what the title indicates, namely the features lost and found (the facts), then I suppose the thread could be only a dozen replies long, appended only when a new feature is found missing, not 1200 replies or whatever it's at now. But having fleshed out the simple facts early on, we have moved to speculation, emotion, religion, and discussion about Apple's intentions and other semi-related topics. That's why I made that reply you linked to, I wanted to bring the conversation back to the facts, especially for those new to the thread. Nobody new is going to slog through 1200 replies. The facts once stated offer little more to discuss. It's a waiting game now. There is little of importance to now discuss, So lacking anything else, we seem to be substituting other semi-related issues and our own emotions about those facts

Actually, this was never a question of the level of support Peter can give. I'm sure he genuinely helps a lot of people. But that's beside the point. He's made a mess of this thread with inaccuracies and undermined any real help it might have been in getting Apple to hear its users' requests. It's too bad really.

What inaccuracies robo?

I am always open to corrections.

And thank you, at last I understand what it is you are saying!

Of course, I humbly apologise for the failure of Pages 5 to open Pages '09 files correctly and the 90+ removed features. That goes without saying.

I also humbly apologise for Abu Graib, the wrong Intel vis a vis Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, Global Warming, The GFC and Chelsea losing last Saturday.

In an odd sort of way I guess I should be flattered that you are holding me responsible for everything that has gone wrong, and so relieved that Apple had nothing to do with it. Now they can make it all better!

So will it be fixed by next Tuesday? If not, when?

I have no clue. So many users will be pleased to get a deadline and final feature list from you, being left in the dark has really been the worst part. I apologise for that as well. If I hadn't started the list Apple would have cleared this all up by now. As they always do.

You really need to work on your reading skills. I didn't blame you for the problems with Pages. How absurd that you would twist my words like that. I blamed you for this mess of a thread. You couldn't just stick to the list, which is quite helpful. You had to turn it into a flame session, which is not helpful.

But why do I get the feeling that you're fully aware of your "misunderstandings" and you intentionally create these absurd situations so you have something to ridicule? All standard FUD tactics.

Nov 28, 2013 7:05 AM in response to robogobo

Actually this thread has served very well as a flame session, as well it should. It has already been pointed out that this is not the official channel by which Apple MAY entertain feedback, so there should be very little worry that Apple will ignore it because of it's tone. So, if it is not for feedback, it is a great place for ignored users to vent and see that others are just as upset.

Technically, as a thread named "Pages 5 features checklist" it should have been only one post long, it is in reality a Pages 5 non-feature checklist. The list of it's actual features probaby would have been shorter.

Someone has been attempting to hijack the thread by taking the heat off of Apple and putting it on the end user, or Peter, which by the way in my opinion is just downright disgraceful.

As part of the angry mob all I can say is, Peter keep up the good work at pointing people to the official feedback channel as well as providing help when it is needed. Let the flames get higher!

Can you explain to robo exactly how I am making a motza out of the forum?

Then explain it to me. I'd love to know!

Peter

Well, Peter, who could resist such a challenge?! This thread has been a real education for a humble “10 pointer” like me. I’ve learnt Australian slang like “motza”, internet slang like “fud”; I’ve watched the flames burning higher and closer. I’ve drifted off to sleep with a smile at Cosmo’s wit, only to wake to another burst from the self-appointed Forum Vigilante in Switzerland.

I hit rock bottom when I found myself daydreaming about Robo’s children (who he had dragged into the forum to bolster some argument or other). I was imagining his son, ten years on, now towering over Robo, telling him just what it’s been like to suffer year after year of his father’s unyielding certainty; then his daughter writing home trying to explain that when she'd been crying or angry or in pain it was not always helpful to tell her to “get over it” and “move on”…

How did I come to this?! I was just trying to find out if it was safe to download Pages 5?!

Robo could be a Guru to trolls worldwide, by his effortless skill in baiting even the most experienced and restrained forum users to respond. Yet it is evident he is not a troll! So we find ourselves reading his posts, and we wonder: how did this tech savvy guy get so out of sync with everyone and everything? And that’s the bait! Some of us fooled ourselves into believing that just one more post, one more point, one more response might just bring this intelligent guy out of trance and back in sync with reality… but, of course, the male ego is not so easily cooled!

I actually don’t think Robo wanted all this. I suspect he just happened by this thread and did his reflexive paternalistic thing, telling his children (that would be us) not to over-react, not to be cry babies, just be patient and Daddy will sort things out. Then he was back-footed by the volume of anger and pain and loss from all these folk who are having to completely re-think (sometimes even repair) their work lives. And having dug in so far, he’s just gonna keep right on digging’… and (my globe assures me) will eventually emerge somewhere off the coast of New Zealand - so just a short hop to his old nemesis in Oz!

So, Peter, that’s how you "made a motza of this forum". You (along with many other worthy souls) took his dangerously tantalising bait! But - as Edward just wisely pointed out - we have warmed ourselves at this fire, been able to scream and dance and find some solidarity. So, still, well done, and thanks.

As of today Pages 5.0.1 is now down to a 2.1 star average. This is down from 2.5 stars a week ago. It is comical to see the "5 star" reviews ever-clinging near the top. Their content screams "shill".

Anyway, I predict that hours before the rating drops into the 1's, a new version will be released. So sit tight, we should have another version to try within a week or two.
