Q: Pages 5 features checklist

As you go through the new Pages 5 can you please add an added, missing or altered features here please.

I will start with some culled from the general discussions and if you could correct any errors add them:

Added

1. Right to Left text ie Arabic, Farsi & Hebrew. Uncertain about Pashtu

2. Single model templates. You turn off document text to get rid of the default. Not sure if this then can be mixed and matched with Word Processing templates

3. Able to share outside iCloud

Missing

1. Selecting non-contiguous text gone

2. Outline view appears gone

3. Customizable Toolbar is gone

4. Many templates appear gone

5. Captured pages gone

6. Reorganize pages by dragging gone

7. Duplicate pages gone

8. Subscript/superscript buttons gone

9. Select all instances of a Style is gone

10. Retain zoom level of document gone

11. Facing pages gone

12. Endnotes gone

13. Media Inspector can't find iPhoto library on external drive

14. Update is missing for older installations, Apple is reportedly working on a solution via a redeemable code or update on the ir Support Download site

Altered

1. Language set under Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar now document wide

2. Subscript/superscript text is now a convoluted route Gear > Advanced options > Baseline > Subscript/Superscript

3. Header appears to be multi-column

4. New file format (but still .pages?) not backwardly compatible

5. Page numbering method changed

6. T.O.C. appears buggy

7. Template file storage location moved - to where?

8. Imported older .pages files are not translating properly

9. Text language is detected automatically now

Letting you know I can't test or verify any of these as I haven't got Mavericks yet.

In the crazy bureaucratic stuff up that Apple seems to perpetually throw iWork, yes it is still chargeable for some people.

You are exempted if you have made a recent purchase and there is a separate webpage, the Apple Up-To-Date Program that tells you how to get around the charge if you previously owned a copy of iWork:

Well, well.  When I first saw that Mavericks was released for free, I opened MAS, and saw that iWork was also free.  I just didn't bite on them, because I'm just not a very good gambler!

Mavericks is still listed as free.  But iWork Apps are not.  I'm running SL; don't know if that makes a difference.

Not shure what you're looking at.  But your numbers are totally off.  1,122 one stars vs 360 five stars.... doesn't bode well for Pages

Here's what the TALE OF THE TAPE actually says:

    .   Screen Shot 2013-11-12 at 2.05.06 PM.png

They are regional postings. The Australian App Store for example is:

    Screen shot 2013-11-13 at 6.12.04 AM.png

Note the amazing turn around from popular to hated in the new version.

The other thing that is very strange is I can only see 112 reviews and no way are there 42 5 stars, in fact barely a handful, as I said, vague gushers.

Does Apple's Marketing Department get a free complimentary plug for itself as needed?

    Nope, math is exactly right:

N= 2,016 total  "votes" for all rankings

    1 and 2 stars = 1,441 combined "votes" = 71.4%

    3 stars = 126 "votes" = 6.1%

    4 and 5 stars = 449 combined "Votes" = 22.2%

Total of percentages:   99.7% (rounding errors cause it to total less than 100%)

sorry to disappoint you.  I'm very amiable, both here and in real life.  It's funny how I'm mostly just trying to curb the negativity here and I get called un-amiable.  Mob rules I suppose.

Have you flipped the view to show recent posts first? Because I am seeing a trend downwards.

There is only one 5 star rating in the last week and judging by the comments that person has never used it before.

They praise long standing features in Pages, like list numbering, as if that is new in v5.

Your so called "negativity" is directed at Apple's negative downgrading of Pages and totally unnecessary removal of Pages '09 from the App Store.

    Two negatives make a positive!

That still leaves you out on a limb with Apple.

Press and marketing contacts.  Ask them why they haven't covered the crap that is iWork.

My statistical summary has nothing to do with the comments, just the totals of ratings per "star category."

And the trend is definitly downward.  one week ago the summary was:

    one and two stars       69.75

    Three stars                  6.5%

    Four and five stars       23.6%

@PeterBreis0807 Your efforts in creating this thread and documenting the changes in Pages are to be commended and are greatly appreciated. Your expressions of anger and frustration about the way Apple introduced those changes are understandable and shared by many (including me). Your continued Apple flaming is simply spreading fear uncertainty and doubt, reflect poorly on you and are undermining the benefits of creating this thread. Clearly you have a lot to offer the community of Mac-users, but the rampant speculation about Apple's motivations and intentions is not helpful. Your ongoing trash talk with @robogobo is childish. He can have a different opinion. Let it be.

@robogobo Your efforts to bring a calm and rational alternative perspective are appreciated. Entering a flame war is not. That Peter disagrees is OK, let it be. On the other hand, some others are now acting like trolls, so remember rule number one of interent forums: don't feed the trolls.

I used to point people to this thread for information on the lost features, but not anymore. It's just degenerated into a flame war.

@PeterBreis0807 and @robogobo: I actually believe you both want to help others. If so, can either of you tell me how to unsubscribe from this thread because I'm tired of dozens of posts of hate and anger and unhelpful name-calling clog up my email inbox.

Clicking "stop email notifications" in the top right of this page should do the trick. Then again, I'd appreciate your input here. :-)

Thanks Tim, that was straight and very kind of you.

Peter - you are a tremendous asset to people like me, older than the technology. Remember, I still am loyal and that beer is still on offer.

robogo - like Tim I respect your wish to be helfpul to the rest of us.

I am so new to this that I find the maxim 'don't feed the trolls' hilarious but accurate.

    Let it be!

Best wishes to all three of you!

    Tim,

    Well done. Perfectly stated.

    Could you address congress next?

Seriously, thanks for being a voice of reason and truth. Very refreshing.

    Peace
