Q: Pages 5 features checklist

As you go through the new Pages 5 can you please add an added, missing or altered features here please.

I will start with some culled from the general discussions and if you could correct any errors add them:

Added

1. Right to Left text ie Arabic, Farsi & Hebrew. Uncertain about Pashtu

2. Single model templates. You turn off document text to get rid of the default. Not sure if this then can be mixed and matched with Word Processing templates

3. Able to share outside iCloud

Missing

1. Selecting non-contiguous text gone

2. Outline view appears gone

3. Customizable Toolbar is gone

4. Many templates appear gone

5. Captured pages gone

6. Reorganize pages by dragging gone

7. Duplicate pages gone

8. Subscript/superscript buttons gone

9. Select all instances of a Style is gone

10. Retain zoom level of document gone

11. Facing pages gone

12. Endnotes gone

13. Media Inspector can't find iPhoto library on external drive

14. Update is missing for older installations, Apple is reportedly working on a solution via a redeemable code or update on the ir Support Download site

Altered

1. Language set under Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar now document wide

2. Subscript/superscript text is now a convoluted route Gear > Advanced options > Baseline > Subscript/Superscript

3. Header appears to be multi-column

4. New file format (but still .pages?) not backwardly compatible

5. Page numbering method changed

6. T.O.C. appears buggy

7. Template file storage location moved - to where?

8. Imported older .pages files are not translating properly

9. Text language is detected automatically now

Letting you know I can't test or verify any of these as I haven't got Mavericks yet.

    Two issues:

    1. Issue:

It should be possible to export form Pages 5 to Pages '09.

But in a large number of cases I got an error message when I try to open the exported document with Pages '09: "It is not possible to open the document..."

    2. Issue:

In Pages '09 it is possible to delete a TOC by deleting the section. This is not possible in Pages 5 as there a no chance to manage sections. If I dont want to have a TOC in a document anymore I have to create a new document

Yes Lauren, we know about the memo from Apple. While it is a positive development in this fiasco, we are still left wondering if Apple will put back the full functionality that was had in Pages 09, or simply re-introduce some subset of the features removed. Each of us has some critical feature relied upon. Reading between the lines, the memo urges us to be patient. But we are hesitant to be patient without kowing if all the features will return. One further clarification, a simple sentence from Apple could sway the future of those of us contemplating jumping ship now.

I do agree 100% with you.

If only Apple could listen to this question,

and answer to it in a positive way, that woul help

to restaure confidence with many of us, users,

(and by the way customers ...)

who are really feeling  to be in a bad position.

What else power have we got than sending bug reports

and feed-backs and express our feelings on community threads ?

    Jean,

A very sad an distressed Apple user.

    Yes we know,

    Yes we know.

Ignoring Apple's long history, I will let the facts speak for themselves.

Apple promises 8 features back, in 6 months time. Just a promise, nothing more.

Meanwile the list of removed features now is over 90 and growing*.

    * Growing much faster than Apple is "reinstating" them with notices.

The Goons had a very funny episode called The Great British Revolution where the people yell out "WE are starving!" and Neddie Seagoon as Prime Minister announces "Here have this piece of paper with Food written on it!" and the people cry "Thank you! …OOOOh, mine has Christmas pudding written on it"

    HELP!!!

I upgraded - been a long time mac boi, and have completely introduced it throughout my current school - something I was very proud of - until the shine was taken off by Pages.

I have been working happily in the Pages 09, but since Pages 5.0, nothing works! I need to insert clickable/tappable objects (with a hyperlink) but I cannot do this any more and now that the document has been opened in 5.0 I can't change it back to Pages 09... can someone help??!!?!?
