Q: Pages 5 features checklist

As you go through the new Pages 5 can you please add an added, missing or altered features here please.

I will start with some culled from the general discussions and if you could correct any errors add them:

Added

1. Right to Left text ie Arabic, Farsi & Hebrew. Uncertain about Pashtu

2. Single model templates. You turn off document text to get rid of the default. Not sure if this then can be mixed and matched with Word Processing templates

3. Able to share outside iCloud

Missing

1. Selecting non-contiguous text gone

2. Outline view appears gone

3. Customizable Toolbar is gone

4. Many templates appear gone

5. Captured pages gone

6. Reorganize pages by dragging gone

7. Duplicate pages gone

8. Subscript/superscript buttons gone

9. Select all instances of a Style is gone

10. Retain zoom level of document gone

11. Facing pages gone

12. Endnotes gone

13. Media Inspector can't find iPhoto library on external drive

14. Update is missing for older installations, Apple is reportedly working on a solution via a redeemable code or update on the ir Support Download site

Altered

1. Language set under Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar now document wide

2. Subscript/superscript text is now a convoluted route Gear > Advanced options > Baseline > Subscript/Superscript

3. Header appears to be multi-column

4. New file format (but still .pages?) not backwardly compatible

5. Page numbering method changed

6. T.O.C. appears buggy

7. Template file storage location moved - to where?

8. Imported older .pages files are not translating properly

9. Text language is detected automatically now

Letting you know I can't test or verify any of these as I haven't got Mavericks yet.

    Yes, nested folders...

Clicking "Other" in "Move To" gives you a finder menu where you can drill up and down folders, etc, to your heart's content.

Guys and gals, I think most of us find Pages 5 disasterous.

Yes we can use pages 4.3, but it will get outdated inevitably. Moreover, there is no return from pages 5 path, as mobile iWork is, so said, irreversibly new.

Let's just use the function they myopically left present - 'Provide Pages Feedback'.

Nope. However, I was wrong, I can drill one more layer in. But then I hit the wall and Pages automaticlaly saves the doc without offering me the new layer.

I'm using Pages 5 in Mavericks and have no problem with this...

After clicking File, Move To select Other from the drop-down menu:

    Screen Shot 2013-10-25 at 1.19.49 PM.png

This gives you the Finder view:

    Screen Shot 2013-10-25 at 1.20.08 PM.png

Make sure Finder isn't in iCloud, just move somewhere in your local filesystem and you can go in and out of folders however you please, create folders, etc, etc.

Peter, my bad for FCX; sorry.

In turn, however, I thought the point of this thread was to collect all the features in Pages 4.3 that we'd like back in Pages, perhaps by v.5.1; meanwhile, we'll use 4.3. (I should like to hope that no one here is hoping for Apple to cast a time-warp spell and undo the latest upgrade destruction of documents and loss of functionality ) I really do grok your frustration; it is shared, to some degree, by many of us. But, why are you/we spending our time compiling a list of bemoaned features and their unfair removal if we were to have no glimmer of a hope that some of them will be reinstated? Or, is this a collection bin for a budding lawsuit?

Interesting. Your second screen shot is what I am expecting, but what I get is a single column of parent files with no option of navigating deeper. Do you think this is an installation problem?

I wouldn't think so. I get the single column when I first open Move To (as shown in the first screenshot) but then get Finder after clicking Other. But Other gives you another single column? Does it in any other way look like a Finder window - ie, the display options at the top (thumbnail, list, column, cover flow)? You might check that and see if it has column selected.

The list of lost features is ideal for the feedback form. It's an excellent compilation of the features we want back.

    Most disappointing.....and, actually, very aggravating!

Having ensured that my major applications were compatible with Mavericks, I eagerly upgraded the OS and iWork/iLife apps. The 'i' apps have been neutered: Hardly a power user, I still use a good number of the features stripped out from these apps......mostly to create attractive, seductive business documents that make a good impression upon the client - something Apple trumpeted in the past as a defining quality of its software.

Apple, please, please, please re-instate the many essential features stripped out from the 'i' apps as soon as possible.

Oh duh. Maybe I deserve Pages 5. This was the setting on the old version and I was expecting to see it on this one but forgot to click that column view. Thanks for indulging an idiot, MacPhelim! Have a great day

Peter!  I really, really like XtraFinder!  I've been running it and tweaking it.  Haven't had any issues and finding little gems as I go along.  Seems to do what I want and more.  So thank you!!

Got the Tagit, but haven't tested it yet.

The other function I was looking forward to in Mav was the 2nd monitor function.  I'm currently using 2ndBar and it's pretty good, but Mavs looks like it works better.  But, ah well.

I'm so disappointed in the Pages new version.  I'm really, reluctant to install Mav.  I use Mac Mail and I've read about big problems with that.

Seems like Pages got the brunt of it though.  They seem to think we all have iPhones, iPads, iPods, etc.  Even if you do, your desktop Mac should be different.  It's not suppose to be a traveler...  broken.

    wow.

Thanks for your time and efforts Peter...And everyone on this thread.  I have left feedback.  It didn't seem to help when they created this version though.  We all have left feedback about the Pages before this.

    wow.

    I'm curious Tristan,

Do you think that removing the enormous number of features and the introduction of a mostly clumsier UI is an accident?

Apple had a bad Monday but will be back with us by Friday?

That Apple will do what it always does and says "Sorry! We made a mistake. Now that you pointed it out we will change course and get back on track. This time putting our customers interests first" ?

    Peter
